Welcome to Week 41 & 42 of John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Training Masterclass Coaching Program.

Woo Hoo! Not many summaries to go!

This post is technically the final summary for the 2009 Masterclass. In the next couple of posts in this training series I will be writing comparative summaries between the 2009 and 2010 training series.

Some of the weeks have been a little different due to updated knowledge and John has changed it around slightly. And then I will finally finish off with a conclusion post!! Yippy!!

So without further comment lets talk about this weeks tasks…….

Marketing Masterclass Week 41 & 42: A Case Study & A Survey

In Both weeks of training we were sent our usual welcome letters and a list of tasks. There were no videos for both weeks.

Week 41: Write A Case Study

This week was a fairly easy week. John asked us to write a case study about our experiences with the course.

When I first received this weeks training I wasn’t too sure about the idea of sharing my story. To tell you the truth I didn’t think people would be interested!

When John was preparing to launch the 2010 Masterclass back in January, he again asked the students about writing case studies as he felt that future students would be interested in hearing from previous students.

At the same time I had also received some inquiries and comments on my blog from fellow readers asking about my experience from reading my summaries.

So… I decided to write my case study. It was about 1am in the morning when my family were sleeping (actually that is when I get my best work done! ) I sat down and wrote.

Without proof reading it I emailed it off to John.

Next thing I knew, he had placed my case study on his website and emailed his list with it! I found out because I received the email the next morning with my case study! Oops on that one!! I did not expect that!

The most humbling experience I have had with my case study is the comments and emails I have received since from people telling me that they enjoyed reading my story and that they could relate to it.

Many have said my story has inspired them to believe in what they can achieve and has helped them with their future decisions.

I can’t explain the feeling that gives me other than it reminds me of when I was teaching beauty school and I would watch one of my girls struggle at learning and then a light bulb would go on and she would get it!

And I would watch her get excited and confident with in herself.

I used to feel like a proud parent knowing I had made a positive influence even if it was so slightly in her life.

Week 42: Complete A Survey

In Week 42, John sent us a letter asking us to complete a quick survey on our experiences with the program.

The survey was anonymous and the questions he asked were how difficult we found it, the pace it went, about the teaching style, the tools used etc etc etc.

He then asked for feedback and comments.

This is where I had a little fun!

After going through the 2008 & 2009 courses I had a good idea as to what the course was missing.

TRANSCRIPTIONS OF THE VIDEOS!

I know a lot of people like learning from video, however I believe if you want to teach people well then you need to teach in the 3 ways:

Video, Audio & Written.

Yes we had a checklist of tasks to do and yes we had the videos showing us step by step how, but what we didn’t have was written step by step as well.

Being a busy mum learning this stuff around my little one and family I have often found myself learning here and there and never in one big block of time.

So as I was going through the course I often found myself watching the videos one day and then coming back the next day to do the tasks.

Now here is the disadvantage.

After watching the videos the day before I would then try and do the tasks, forget the steps and find myself having to remember the point in the video and go back and try and find it!

This was frustrating and time consuming!

So to help myself I started transcribing Johns training videos word for word. Yes this took a little extra time when watching the videos, however to tell you the truth I learned better this way.

I was watching, listening, writing, reading and then doing!

Having the transcriptions helped me when it came to doing the tasks as I had my step by step notes to refer to.

So as you can tell my feedback for John was to introduce transcriptions and that is exactly what he did do for the 2010 course!

Yippy! No more writers cramp!

Week 41 & 42 Checklist:

Write a case study about our experience with the masterclass training

Do the feedback survey to help John improve the course for future students

OK so that is Week 41 & 42 wrapped up and technically that is the end of the 2009 Masterclass Program.

One of the advantages of being a previous student of Johns is that I have access to the future masterclass training programs.

So in the next couple of posts I will write a comparison between the 2009 & 2010 courses before writing my overall conclusion.

Welcome to Week 37-40 of John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Training Masterclass Coaching Program.

After 2 months off from writing summary posts I can finally get back to finishing this series. Only a couple more posts to go! Woo Hoo Happy Dance!

I was originally going to write about each week individually, however as they are only sales page reviews I have decided to collate the summaries into one.

So lets begin with this weeks tasks…….

Marketing Masterclass Week 37-40: Sales Page Edits

During Weeks 37-40 John selected 4 of my fellow students sales pages to critique and edit. We were not sent any tasks, just the videos of the reviews.

I have decided not to reveal who’s sales pages were chosen for privacy reasons as well as respect for my fellow students. For those people to allow John to critique their work as well as allow the videos to be available to other fellow students is very courageous and trusting and I do not want to disrespect that vulnerability.

What I am going to do is give you a summary of the common points that John found and the suggestions he gave to improve the websites.

Sales Page Edit Summaries

Here are the points that John recommends for writing sales page websites from his critiques:

Don’t use too much bold in a headline

Red is good to use for headlines as it stands out

Your sub-headings should be the same font as your main headline. A good headline size is 24 points (size 4) and a good size for sub-headlines is 18 points (size 5)

Sub-headlines should be the same colour as the main headline

Every word in a headline or sub-headline should start with a capitol letter to emphasis the importance of what you are trying to say

The sales page body text shouldn’t be larger than 12 point or smaller for easy reading

Try not to have too many different coloured fonts as well as too many different types of fonts. 2 different fonts should be fine such as ‘Impact’ for headings and ‘Verdana’ for the body text

Always introduce yourself at the beginning and try to include a picture where possible

Try to work within tables within your sales page template, you have less chance of having formatting problems by doing this

Your bullet and testimonial sections should be placed with in tables. This helps for better page alignment and formatting

Try to avoid too much white space gaps

Always check the viewing of the page in as many browsers as you can. Sometimes your website layout will look fine in ‘Firefox’ and be completely out of format in ‘Internet Explorer’

Try to have graphic images for your products and bonuses

Your ebook graphic images don’t have to be large ones

Try not to stretch images where pixilation can occur

Try to include bonuses where possible

Don’t mention your bonuses have resell rights unless your product is resell rights related

Try not to link to other websites on your sales page unless it is related to your product you want people to stay on your website for as long as possible so they have more chance of buying

Always have a couples of P.S’s under your signature with another ‘Buy It Now’ button

Don’t place your email address directly on the page. Create a picture image of the email address to avoid your address being harvested by spammers

Always proof read your page and check for spelling and grammar mistakes

Where possible have someone else proof read over the page for you

Work on your sales page even after you have completed it. Constantly test and tweak and compare conversion

And finally try to keep things simple

Some of those points I think I need to reassess on my own sales page!

It is interesting looking at other people’s sales pages. We are all similar, yet all different in our own ways. You can learn a lot from the different ways people write and how they try to present their pages.

Some follow a set of rules and others don’t, some look the same, some have video, some have audio. To tell you the truth I think it is all trial and error and testing a measuring!

Writing sales pages is still a fairly new concept for me and truthfully if I had the money I would employ someone with more experience to write them for me.

Until then I will continue to watch and learn how the more successful and ethical marketers are doing them and take note, plus use some really clever sales page writing software called “Burpies” to help me along the way!

And make edits if we need to, to improve our sales pages

Constantly test and measure our results

OMG We made it!

This weeks training is the official final week of masterclass.

To be honest with you, I am a little pleased with myself for committing to write this series and actually completing it!

(At times I didn’t think I was going to make it, however thank you to some loyal readers, knowing that you were waiting on my posts kept me going and focused! Thank You! )

There are another 6 weeks of extra training material that we were sent with some case study critiques and I will be summarising those videos in the next 2 training posts, however technically this is the final training week.

Internet Marketing Masterclass Week 36: Wash, Rinse And Repeat

This week we were sent our usual welcome letter and a final list of tasks to do!

Week 36 Summary

In our welcome letter, John congratulates us on getting to the final week and talks about what we have achieved so far and what he feels we need to focus on now.

Yes the course has been a long one and truthfully it has been easy in some parts and in others it has been hard.

(Some tasks have been completed with out a problem and others I haven’t even completed yet! I still have to write some articles, set up my discount pages, and complete my giveaway book.)

Looking back over the last 36 weeks of training John reminds us what we have learned and how far we have come from complete newbies to budding little entrepreneurs.

It is actually amazing to think of what we have achieved so far.

(This is just a quick summary)

How to create a blog from scratch
How to create a digital ebook, audio and basic video from scratch
How to create a mini website and sales page from scratch
How to create a download and affiliate page from scratch
How to list our product on clickbank
How to start promoting our product
How to start driving traffic to our websites
How to write articles
How to write an email course
How to set up auto responders
How to start building a list
How to create a giveaway brandable report
How to create discount pages
How to source joint venture partners

And so much much more…………………….

This course did not teach us how to get rich quick! What it did teach us was how to create a sustainable business online from scratch.

The idea now is to wash, rinse and repeat so to speak.

“To Create Multiple Streams Of Income”

Very rarely will one product earn you enough money to give up your day job. However let’s say for example that if one product is only bringing in 1 sale per week of $30. Then imagine what 10, 20 or 30 products will bring in over time. Can you see the potential? (And this is just conservative thinking!)

Yes this business does take a lot of time and work in the beginning. There is a lot of learning that you have to do just to set the systems in place. This is unavoidable. After 3 years of slowly learning this stuff around my little one I can not see how you can do it any other way if you really want to know and understand what you are doing.

Yes if you had a lot of money you could pay people to do the tasks for you, or if you are like me and funds a very tight you can take the long way and learn how to do things yourself in the beginning.

(I do believe I will outsource in the future, however right now I am glad I have taken my time. To learn things from scratch means I will be able to teach people from scratch in time. Having this knowledge will allow me to be a better teacher and my long term goal is to teach mummas like me how to create businesses online while their little ones sleep! )

Building a business online is no different to building a house! You need to lay the foundations and that is what John has taught us during the last 36 weeks. He has taught us the very basic foundations of starting a business online from scratch.

Now the idea is to create more products and really kick this internet business into gear! Most successful online marketers are constantly creating new products, most will create 4-6 new products a year. (I think it will be a while before I get to that stage, I still have to complete the tasks I haven’t done yet from my first product! )

OK I think I have rambled on enough here. I still have a couple of more posts I need to write before I have officially completed this training series, and the challenge is upon us!

Welcome to Week 35 of John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Training Masterclass Coaching Program.

Not many more weeks of training to go! Woo Hoo Happy Dance!

I have worked out I have about 4 more posts to go to complete this training series, and hopefully I can complete them in the next 2 weeks. If you read my last post (Are You Ready For The Challenge) you will know that the new styled ‘Thirty Day Challenge’ is about to begin and this year I would like to write about the challenge as I do it! (Well that’s the plan anyway! )

This training occurs once a year and this years challenge is about to start on the 1st of July. It has a new format with new content so I am really looking forward to doing the challenge as well as writing about my experiences with it. Internet Marketing Masterclass Week 35: All Things eBay

This weeks training is a quick one!! Yay!! We were sent our usual welcome letter and tasks to do. No Videos! Yippy!!

Week 35 Summary

As you may or may not know John initially started his online journey like most people through selling on eBay. So in this weeks training we were given FREE lifetime access to his signature product ‘Ninety Day Power Seller’. This product is currently being sold for $97.

(I actually own the product already. I bought it back in 2008. )

‘The Ninety Day Power Seller‘ report that John sells separately to the ebook website was how I had been introduced to John’s training. I bought the report off ebay back in March 2008 and then bought the website software program not long after.

I have set up two websites with the software, ‘Ebooks From Oz’ (ebooks only) and ‘Jads Book Shop’ (ebooks and software).

In 2009 Dave Nicholson created ‘Your Software Website’ (which is the same concept as the ebook website but selling software instead). He also created a plugin upgrade so that you could have a website selling both ebooks and software.

To be truthful I haven’t done much more with the websites other than create them and upload them. I wanted to really focus on the John’s Masterclass Training once I made the commitment. It is very easy to get sidetracked in this online world and before you know it you can end up with information overload.

I do plan on doing more with the websites at a later date, but right now there are still a few more things I need to learn and do! (So much to do, so little time, I need a clone! )

The ‘Ninety Day Power Seller’ program has some excellent training that comes with it. Not only do you get access to the actual software that will create your own ebook selling website, you also receive a wealth of information inside the members area teaching everything step by step in written and video format, plus we have access to an amazing forum that has been going since @2006!

The idea of the ‘Ninety Day Power Seller’ program is:

To teach us how to become digital information sellers on eBay and work towards achieving a ‘Power Seller’ status within 90 days.

To teach us how to create our own digital information and ebook website that is separate to eBay using the website template and software program that is supplied.

I could talk about this program even more however this post would end up being a product review and that’s not what this post is about! (I will do a proper product review another time. )

The reason why John has given us access to his program is to show us that we can have multiple streams of income online such as;

We can create our own products and market them like we have been shown through out his masterclass training program.

We can have websites dedicated to selling lots of different reports and ebooks such as ‘Your Own Ebook Website’.

And we can sell digital items on eBay.

(There are many other ways to make money online, however I am not going to discus those ways now! )

The only problem with selling digital items on eBay nowadays is that the products must be sold as a physical item such as burning them to CD for delivery. Ebay changed its policies in about May 2008 and no longer allow digital downloadable items to be sold.

One of the advantages of selling on eBay is that you can use the website for list building and generating traffic to your blog and other websites. (I won’t go into these tactics right now, this is another series of posts entirely! )

If you have read some of my daily tasks posts I have talked about how I have been preparing to start selling again on ebay. I have created my main hosting website ‘Jads Deals’ where I can host all of my images and templates to reduce ebay costs.

I have also created my news letter sign up ready for list building and have prepared my ‘CD’ format ready for sending. (All this is taught in ‘The Ninety Day Power Seller Program’)

Now I just need to find the time to start listing the items!

Over the last couple of months I have noticed there are still quite a few people selling digital items on eBay very successfully, however I can tell when someone is just listing digital items they haven’t actually read or listened to! I think this can be a sellers downfall!

My intention is to make sure that I have read or experienced each item prior to selling it. Even if I just read through the book to make sure it is quality. So many people are selling stuff they have no idea about, you can tell by the way they have prepared their sales page.

John’s ‘Ninety Day Power Seller’ program has taught me how to set myself up to be an efficient seller, now I just have to get out there and sell!

The one thing I do want to mention regarding selling digital items on eBay is that there are other websites out there you can sell on as well! A lot of people think they can only sell on eBay, there are heaps of other websites you can sell on too!

They may not have the same ranking and traffic as eBay however there is nothing wrong with listing digital items on as many sites as you can especially if these websites allow your items to be downloadable!

For example here in Australia there is a site called ‘Oztion’. You can sell downloadable items on there and the fees are a lot cheaper than eBay!

Over the next few months I will be researching other sites other than eBay to sell my digital products on. I will let you know how I go.

I can’t believe I have been writing about John’s course for nearly a year now! What a commitment to training! Ha ha Only kidding. It has been a really awesome experience and one I would do again in a heart beat!

Internet Marketing Masterclass Week 34: Using Virtual Agents – Exit Scripts

In this weeks training John talks about using ‘Exit Scripts’.

What is an ‘Exit Script’ you may ask?

Believe it or not I am sure you have experienced an ‘Exit Script’ with out even knowing about it!

Have you ever been on a website and then you have gone to leave and a little window pops up and says “Are you sure you want to leave?”

That is an ‘Exit Script’!!

An ‘Exit Script’ is activated when someone goes to leave your website. As they move the cursor away a chat box will open up getting their attention.

You can use an ‘Exit Script’ to offer a discount on your product giving you a second chance for them to buy. You can also configure the script to encourage sign ups to your lists.

This week we were sent our usual welcome letter for the week, our checklist of tasks and we only had 1 video to download and watch.

Video 1: Using Exit Scripts

In this video John shows us how he has the ‘Exit Script’ set up on his ‘PLR For Profits’ website. He has this script installed on all of his websites.

According to John a lot of people don’t like the scripts as they do not allow you to exit the page straight away. However if the person is leaving our website anyway then what harm will it do to try and offer a discount or some sort of incentive to sign up to our list? They can always close the chat and leave anyway!

John shows us the statistics from his website and the script at this stage has generated just over $300 extra in sales. This is an extra $300 that John would have missed out on if he didn’t have the ‘Exit Script’ installed. (It is probably a lot more now as this was about September last year! )

The software that we are recommended to use is ‘Virtual Smart Agent’. The software costs $97 to buy and has been created by ‘Dave Guindon’ who is a well respected internet marketer.

According to John there are instructional videos that come with the software and apparently it is very simple to install and easy to use.

I haven’t bought or installed this software yet. It is on my list of things to do!

Summary

Once we have completed our product to this point John wants us to send all of our files to him for review. If our product is suitable and is relevant to John’s niche he may promote it to his list.

Silly me chose to write about ‘Spray Tanning’ which is not exactly Ebay or Internet Marketing! Oops on that one!

One day I do hope to create a product that John might promote to his list. Currently he has over 100,000 on his list. Not a bad little number of people to have your product promoted to!!

(It is definitely on my long term list of things to do!! )

Welcome to Week 33 of John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Training Masterclass Coaching Program.

10 training weeks to go! Woo Hoo!!!!! Happy dance!

Well actually there really is only 3 weeks as the course officially ends at week 36, however I have decided to write about the extra 6 weeks that we received.

4 of those weeks were case studies that John made of some fellow students website sales pages. (I will write about these in one post.) 1 is on writing our own case studies and the final week we were asked to participate in a survey.

In this weeks training we begin the final phase of our coaching program called “Advanced Tactics” so with out further comment lets begin with this weeks tasks…….

Internet Marketing Masterclass Week 33: Creating And Offering Discounts

One advanced tactic a lot of marketers use is having a special discount page for their products. This page can be used for subscriber specials, or for previous customers. This page is not one that will have affiliates promote unless you set it up for an exclusive affiliate later on.

This week we were sent our usual welcome letter for the week, our checklist of tasks plus we had 4 videos to download and learn.

Video 1: Create Discount Folder

Having a discount folder can work to a business advantage. For example, we may have someone interested in promoting our product but would like to preview it first. Rather than give them a free copy, we could offer them the discount version and possibly make a cheaper sale.

The first thing John wants us to do in this video is to create a ‘Discount’ folder and copy all of our sales page files from our website into this folder.

Basically this is a duplicate copy of everything.

Video 2: Add Discounted Product To Clickbank

In this video John shows us how to add our discounted product to ‘Clickbank’.

We are shown:

How to access our ‘Clickbank’ account settings to find our listed products

How to take our first product and duplicate it

How to edit the product number and title

How to determine the discounted price

How to direct the product to the same Thank You or Download Page

And how to save the settings

When deciding on a discounted price John recommends that it should be between 30-50% off. The bottom line is that the product is a digital downloadable item and as long as we can make extra sales where we may not have done so before, then the price should not matter too much.

If we are doing the discount page exclusively for joint venture partners or super affiliates then it is recommended to be at least a 50% discount.

Video 3: Edit Discounted Page

Before completely adding our product to ‘Clickbank’ we will need to edit our ‘discount page’ as well as renaming it.

All we need to do to change the discount page is to rearrange and edit some of the text.
For example adding in “Special price of $XX available via personal invitation only” in the heading.

Where ever we have written the full price of the product we should put a ‘slash’ through that price, add in our discount price and underneath the discount price add, “Through This Special Link”.

We will also need to edit the payment button to whatever product number we created the discount product to be on ‘Clickbank’.

Once we have edited and changed the discount page, the files are ready for uploading and for completing the ‘Clickbank’ application process.

Video 4: Upload Discount Folder

In this video John shows us how to upload our discount folder to our products website. (We should already know how to do this from uploading our original sales page. )

Our folder should be uploaded to the same folder that we uploaded our ‘Affiliates Folder’ and ‘Thank You’ folder to.

The next thing that John recommends for us to do is to test our links and ‘buy button’ to make sure everything works properly.

If we want to generate quick sales we could create a title such as, “For the next 48 hours I am going to have a special discount link…..”

Send the email out to our subscribers list and then take the page down after 48 hours.

We could also duplicate the process and offer discounts of different amounts.

There is nothing stopping us from having our main product priced at @$97, plus have a discount page of $77 and then another discount page for $67 and $57 etc etc.

As we create more products in the future having discount pages can be a great way to cross promote our products to our different buyers.

The more different ways we can promote our product even if they are at different prices, the more chance we have of making sales.

The more sales we make, the more money we make!

Once we have created the folders, edited the pages and uploaded all the files to our webspace we then need to confirm that our discount page has been correctly uploaded to ‘Clickbank’.

Important: Make sure that these products are not able to be viewed in the marketplace. You want the products listed as private. You only want invited affiliates to be able to promote these special pages!

Continue to visit fellow students, marketers, niche blogs and forums and post comments where appropriate

Continue writing and submitting articles
