Creating Your Own Email At Your Own Website
Hello Fellow Newbies,
OK. So where do you go next after registering your domain name and organizing your hosting?
Hopefully by now your website should be showing up at your hosting website. For example when you type in your website name, you should see a page that says “This website is hosted by such and such etc etc etc” or something to that effect. Well the next thing you want to create is your own email account to your website.
Having your own email account to your own website will make you look more professional as well as personal rather than using the free services or normal email accounts from your Internet supplier.
To create your own email address at your domain name you will need to log-in to your website hosting accounts cpanel (this is your hosting control panel). You do this by typing in your domainname.com/cpanel. Eg www.johnsmithers.com/cpanel. Your log-in details to your cpanel will be on your welcome email from your hosting account.
If you have joined up with D9hosting, they have how to videos in their tutorial section so if you are confused just do a search and you should find the appropriate how to tutorial. Once you are in your control panel click on the email account symbol and you are ready to create your own email. You can use anything you want!! For example admin, sale, info, questions, inquiries, your name etc etc. Anything! Then you need to pick a password, and then click create and your done!! You now have your own email to your own domain.
Now it is time to make sure your email works!! You will need to create an account in whatever email client you use on your computer such as Outlook, Windows Mail, Outlook Express etc. To find out what your email settings are, in your cpanel email accounts area you should be able to click on an icon that says ‘configure mail client,’ this will show your outgoing pop and smtp configuration. Once you have those details you can create an account to receive your emails to your computer.
Hopefully you know how to create your own email account on your computer so I am not going to explain that one here. Once you have created an account, send yourself a couple of emails. Send one to your website email and vice versa to see if they are working. Be patient with this as it may take up to half an hour to work correctly. If it doesn’t work then use the help section in your cpanel to find out what is not working.
OK. So now you are up to the end of week ones training as I am trained. I am excited today i actually learnt how to print the screen of my computer as I see the screen! I know that may sound trivial to some of you, however I have always wondered how those people writing the how to’s on computers have been able to show those pictures of what they are doing on the monitor. This has had me baffled!
I had no idea there was this tiny little button on my keyboard that says ‘Prt Scr’. Guess what that means??? It means print screen!!! OK I am newbie!!! I have been using computers for most of my life and have had no idea I could print the screen and it was a little button on my keyboard!!!!!
So for any of you out there that like me has wanted to know how to take a picture of your computer screen, all you have to do is use the button that says ‘Prt Scr’ on your keyboard or you may need to hold ‘Ctrl’ and then ‘Prt Scr’ or ‘Alt’ and then ‘Prt Scr’.
To save the picture you then open up your word document program and open a new document and click ‘paste’ and viola you should have a picture of your computer screen!! If you want to save the picture as a ‘jpg’ you will need to have a publisher program on your computer. Paste the picture into a new publisher document and then you can click ‘save image as’ and save it as a jpg.
I have been trying to work this out for days reason being is that because I am writing about my training I wanted to be able to take pictures of what I am doing to then share here. I found out by searching the help section of my windows program for the term ‘print screen’ and it told me how to do it. It was an aha moment for me for such a simple task!! Just thought I would share this with you to show I am definitely new to all of this.
My next post will talk about week 2 of my training as my tutorials arrived today. So now I will spend the next couple of days watching the videos and doing the exercises and then I will share them with you. I may even get creative and try to take pictures of what I am doing and learn how to post them here as well. Pretty cool huh!
So until then…….

You know Jacinta, i have been using computer for 8 years now and i still didn’t know about that little button for capturing screens, lol. I have been using some free and paid screen capture softwares for my tutorial products. It just shows you how we overlook things that are in front of us and are always looking for answers elsewhere. Thanks for this great little tip. And happy 2010. I wish you the best.
Hi Satrap,
Yes I felt like a bimbo when I learned that one!
It is funny how we can over look the simple things. Thank you for popping by and see you on your blog soon!
