Hello All,

Welcome to Part 6B of my summary of Raymond Aaron’s 2011 Blueprint To Success Seminar as part of my Internet Marketers Seminar Speakers Series’……….

Yes I know it has been awhile since part 6B, but we all need a little time away some time. I think Christmas, New Year and a couple of birthdays is a good excuse! hahahhahahaha

So for those of you following this series….. How did you find Part 6A??

(If you haven’t read part 6A yet click here: Raymond Aaron Part 6A)

What did you think of the first 8 steps to “How The Rich Get Rich In Business”?

If you liked those steps you are going to love the next part. I have a lot to get through so without any further comment, lets get started…………..

Raymond Aaron’s 2011 Blueprint To Success Seminar – Part 6B

In my last post in the Raymond Aaron seminar series we covered the first 8 steps in “How the rich get rich in business”, these steps can actually be used and adapted for any type of business both online and offline.

OK so let’s continue with the plan………..

How The Rich Get Rich – The Coached Way

This is the continuation of what I learned of Raymond’s steps of how the rich get rich in business steps 9-20….

9 – CREATE YOUR BRAND

You need to create your brand to become successful.

You should put a ‘tm’ symbol after everything!!

This does not necessarily mean you are actually trade marking everything, but it does mean you are claiming ownership to your marketing.

For Example: Your url, your logo, the colour scheme you are using, your slogan, your tag lines etc etc etc

I actually need to look into this a little more! I have a couple of taglines that I have used in my spray tanning niche and over the last couple of months I have noticed more and more people using my taglines.

Most of the time these have been affiliates using the lines to promote my manual. That I don’t mind! That is the whole point of allowing affiliates to promote and supplying affiliate tools.

However I have also noticed a couple of people in my niche using my taglines to promote their own products……….. this I do not like!!

If these people were affiliates of my product I wouldn’t mind, but to use my taglines to promote their own products!!! That is just being lazy!!!

I know you can’t stop people from copying people, I just know I would not do it.

I like to learn from people, but I also like to put my own spin on things.

10 – CREATE YOUR 5 SECOND PITCH

You should create a 5 second pitch to promote yourself!

This could be about your product and what your product can do.

This is like creating your own tagline for you and your business.

Your pitch needs to pretend to be about you but really about them.

For Example: Using my spray tanning niche, If I am meeting someone new for the first time in the beauty industry or someone interested in spray tanning. I could say…….

“Hi! My name is Jacinta Dean. I am a qualified trainer & how to spray tan just like the professionals!”

11- ESTABLISH YOUR AUTHORITY

To be successful in your niche you need to establish your authority, you need to be seen as an expert.

You can do this a couple of ways such as writing a blog dedicated to the niche, writing articles, writing a book (this is one of the best ways), create a facebook profile, create a facebook page, LinkedIn profile, Google Plus profile and creating a twitter profile.

Raymond says that if you want to claim authority fast to try and build your twitter following by 1,000 per week.

(Looks like I need to kick my butt in this department, my twitter profile is only increasing by about 100 per week! )

12 – PLAN FOR SOCIAL PROOF

Is it possible to have a testimonial page that can constantly be updated as part of your business?

Ask for testimonials from clients where ever and when ever you can.

The more testimonials you have the more social proof of happy clients.

Social proof helps with future online sales.

13 – PLAN FOR REFERRALS

Create a reward system for when people refer you.

For Example: You can use a ‘refer a friend or tell a friend script’ on your website where clients can list 3 friends and in return get a free gift.

In an offline business this can be done by offering a client an extra discount on a product or service if they recommend you.

I used this technique in my spray tanning business. I had a referral system set up where if a client recommended 6 friends then they received a free spray tan. The technique I used in order to know who referred the client was that my new client had to tell me who referred them for them to receive a %15 discount. This was a win/win for everyone!

14 – ALIGN WITH A RELATED CAUSE

This goes with the saying “You must give in order to receive!”

People like buying from people that are givers and whats more people like knowing that a percentage of their money is being used to give, even if it is just 5%-10%.

Pick a cause that is related to you or related to your business. Let your clients know that you give to charity, however don’t make a big deal of this, do it subtly.

One of the charities I like to give to is the “Royal Children’s Hospital” here in my city.

When my daughter was 1 she was diagnosed with a condition called “Craniosynostosis”. This condition can affect children 1 in 2,000 and my daughters particular condition of “Metopic Craniosynostosis” is 1 in 10,000.

The overall condition of “Craniosysnostosis” does not have a lot of research and there is not a lot of understanding of it. There are different levels of this condition, surgery is often required and there are often developmental and physical issues depending on the cranio condition and child that can last a lifetime.

I could go on and on here, however what I am trying to say is that because of my daughter I have a chosen charity that I am very passionate about.

Another charity I would like to get involved with is ‘Kiva’.

15 – SELECT A MANAGEMENT FEEDBACK & DATA TRACKING SYSTEM

You need to know your statistics on how your business and product are performing.

Set up a tracking system on everything!

You need to know the following:

where your clients/prospects are coming from

how they are finding you

how many sales you are getting per visitors

how many customers are becoming repeat buyers

what pricing structures are working

what marketing is working etc etc etc

You should set up a client feedback system to find your ‘Wows’ and ‘Un-Wows’

You should track everything!

The only way you can improve your business is to know your stats.

16 – SOFT LAUNCH & REVIEW YOUR NUMBERS

This is important and is often missed!

So many people create a product or business, they don’t do the stats so they can test and tweak and then wonder why they are not successful in the long term.

Depending on your product or business model it is important for you to beta test.

Invite some people to test your product, test your sales process, test the experience, test a few advertising and lead generation techniques for the soft launch.

Get their feedback and crunch the numbers.

17 – REDESIGN & IMPROVE FROM THE FEEDBACK

Go through the numbers and feedback you have received from the soft launch and make the changes needed.

Go through the ‘Un-Wows’ and improve, eliminate them if possible.

Go through the ‘Wows’ and add more if you can.

What ever has been suggested to improve, where possible make those changes.

18 – HARD LAUNCH

Once you have completed your soft launch, you know your numbers and you’ve made your improvements, it is now time to officially launch your business or product. Yay!!

This is both relevant to offline and online business.

Your product should be ready, your sales and marketing should be ready and your reporting and payment processing should be in place.

Now it is time to create a buzz and get people excited to buy!

(This is where your marketing understanding needs to take place! )

19 – KEEP WATCHING YOUR NUMBERS

We should always watch our numbers, tracking is the key to the continued success of our product.

Keep track of your sales, your traffic and your inquiries.

Analyze them daily, weekly and monthly.

If the numbers change then we need to test and tweak and re-design and improve.

20 – KEEP DELEGATING MORE & MORE!

As each part of the business can be systemized, it is important to delegate more tasks to other people.

Set up systems for everything possible so you can train others to do those tasks.

This will give you the opportunity to focus on creating or introducing new products and grow your business more.

21- GET A MENTOR

If you don’t have the discipline to do this yourself and need the extra push and motivation, or if you don’t know what to do and want to learn how then get a mentor!!

The Rich Get Rich By Being Coached And Mentored To Success PLUS Having A Plan And Acting On That Plan!

—————————————————————————————

Summary

OK so there you have it!

That is Raymond’s step by step plan on how he believes the rich get rich in business.

This is actually a really great business plan and definitely one you can use for any type of business.

I have seen so many people start up a business without a plan over the last 20 years.

I was guilty of it myself during my 20′s.

I started a couple of different businesses in the offline world, had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and being a little arrogant and typical I refused to listen to the people I should have listened to and instead I listened to the people I shouldn’t have, and consequently I went broke and nearly bankrupt!!

Education and planning are definitely keys to business success.

If you don’t know what your doing, then either pay someone who is credible and does or learn how to do it yourself!

OK so I think I have bombarded you with more than enough information to absorb for this post.

This is definitely enough for now…..

In part 7 I will be covering “Raymond’s Marketing Process” and “How To Get Rich Online”.

Plus I still have to cover “Intentional Congruence And You” and “The Business Of The Future” to complete the whole seminar.

Hopefully I will be able to cover these topics in 2 more posts at the most!

I do hope you are enjoying this series and I also hope everything is going well for you where ever you are in the world….

So until next time……..

“One day, one hour, one minute & one task at a time will lead you to your dreams”

I can’t believe it is 2012 already.

Where did 2011 go!!!

Actually to be completely honest with you, I am kinda glad that the year is over.

It was a tough year personally for me and I came very close to giving up on everything all together.

However being the determined little turtle I am, giving up is not an option.

Instead I have just taken a step back (actually more like 10 steps! lol) over the last few months and re-evaluated everything.

Plus my little one has been pretty much home with me full-time since August (her part time day carer had a baby! ) so my time online has been limited.

I mean REALLY limited!

There have been some weeks over the last 5 months where I was lucky to get online at all!

I will be straight up here…….

If you are a mummy with toddlers and husband (Yes! Hubbys take up time too!) it can sometimes be near impossible to get online and get study done!

By the time everyone is asleep I want to sleep myself!!

Yes there have been days when I have tried to get online when they are home and truthfully it does not work!!

My little one just does not understand the concept of “Mummy has to do some study” and looks at me every 5 minutes wanting to play or show me something or go somewhere!

(lol hubby has been similar! )

I soon realised that I wasn’t going to get anything major done until this year starting in February when my little one goes to kndergarten/pre-school.

So instead of stressing about it I decided to come up with a 12-18 month business/study plan knowing my limitations. I did this back in September after I watched an awesome workshop.

(I will talk more about this workshop in another post in time, it is well worth watching if you have the time. )

For the last couple of months I have been quietly working on some of the foundations for my plan.

One task and one day at a time!

2012 is going to be a year of growth, of new beginnings and of change for me………

I am finally up to date with collating all the products I have on my hard drive (yes there were thousands) all into their niches, years and licenses.

This took me hours and hours and hours.

So very soon I will be putting together some fantastic private and master resell rights packages together for offer.

I will be completely revamping my subscriber membership with lots of regular giveaways, plus I will be creating a very special exclusive membership site for you with lots and lots of free training I have sourced for you.

To those of you on my lists, I just want to say thank you for being loyal and patient with me, you will be receiving notice of the changes soon plus the regular freebies will be beginning very soon too!

I plan on focusing a lot of my efforts on getting to know my subscribers more as well as building my lists more. (This is my main focus for 2012)

And then by the end of the year I plan to get really stuck into my own product creation ready to launch some offline training in 2013. (This is the carrot goal! lol)

I will be continuing to write here on my blog, however to be completely fair to myself and to you, I only expect to write once to twice a month.

I have a lot to get done and only very limited time to do it in.

Plus this year is the last year my little one is home with me before she heads off to the big wide world of school.

I do plan on reviewing a few products I have bought so I will let you know about those in time, plus I will let you know who I am learning from and why.

This year is all about executing my plan as best as I can, plus being a mummy & wife too!!

So there you have it!

My plans for 2012…….

I hope everyone had an awesome christmas & new year………….

So until next time……..

“One day, one hour, one minute & one task at a time will lead you to your dreams”

Hello All,

Welcome to Part 6 of my summary of Raymond Aaron’s 2011 Blueprint To Success Seminar as part of my Internet Marketers Seminar Speakers Series’……….

For those of you following this series….. How did you find Part 5??

(If you haven’t read part 5 yet click here: Raymond Aaron Part 5)

What did you think of the difference between strategic, heterogeneous and homogeneous alliances?

Are you using alliances to grow your business?

To be honest I don’t think any business can succeed in today’s economy with out using strategic alliances.

“No one can succeed alone!”

So are you looking forward to today’s post???

I have a big one lined up for you as today I am going to start covering Raymond’s teachings on ‘How The Rich Get Rich In Business’.

So with out further comment let’s begin………….

Raymond Aaron’s 2011 Blueprint To Success Seminar – Part 5

“Your wealth is determined by how fast you implement an idea!”

Are you an ideas person?

Do you act on your ideas?

Do you plan your ideas?

Sometimes I have so many ideas swimming around in my head I can’t sleep! I now have notebooks after notebooks of ideas and notes.

I the past whenever I have had an idea, I would write them down and I used to try to start to implement them whenever I got them…….

However I also found I was not very successful at this, as I used to get incredibly sidetracked and moved from one idea to another over the last few years.

Hence I have felt like a chook running around a paddock in circles…….

(Do you know what I am talking about here?????? I am sure most of you do! )

Now I write my ideas down as soon as I get them, but instead of trying to implement the idea straight away with out thinking, I actually spend about an hour writing a rough plan of what I may need to do to get the idea started.

Then I read over my idea and then place the notebook away to wait until I am ready to focus on the idea 100%!

Since taking on that strategy I have been a lot more successful at completing my tasks and planning my ideas better.

“It is also important to implement the idea correctly!”

Implementing an idea takes planning, commitment, focus and action and this is often how the rich get richer.

They are fast at planning and implementing their ideas.

How The Rich Get Rich – The Coached Way

This is Raymond’s version of how the rich get rich in business and their step by step plan they use to do it.

1 – IDENTIFY YOUR ABILITIES

What are you passionate about?

What are you excellent at?

What are your skills both in business and on a personal level?

You need to spend time answering these questions. Once you have these answers you can move forward.

2 – STRATEGICALLY CHOOSE YOUR NICHE

Once you have your answers from step 1 you can then start to pick a niche you may interested in creating a business in.

You will need to:

Look for hot eager buyers

And market test the niche (If you have no potential buyers there is no market. You don’t want to waste your time!)

3 – UNDERSTAND YOU NICHE

You should do your market research online and offline depending on what your chosen niche is.

At the moment I don’t think market research has been taught enough or taught very well.

(Well at least that has been my experience so far! )

Most of the online business courses out there only glance over market research, probably because they actually don’t know how to research properly themselves.

Understanding your market and what your market wants is the key to the success of your product.

It is not hard to market research. Yes it can take a little time but not as long as people may think. Yes you may need to dedicate a couple of days to research depending on how quick you work.

However isn’t it better to research whether a market is viable or not before you spend even more time creating a product and launching it to find there is no one interested in buying??

There are a lot of quick ways to do research online using forums, newsletters, groups, twitter, facebook, myspace, google searches and keyword searching just to name a few.

Ed Dale from ‘The Challenge’ training, teaches that market research and market understanding is a key to the future of your product or idea.

(This is the best course I have found so far that really goes into market research and the importance of understanding your chosen market. Plus the best bit! The course is FREE!)

4 – ORGANISE YOUR DUTIES

Next you need to prioritise what duties need to be done and the order of their importance.

You will need to manage your time, plan your day and work schedule, time each task and then work out what you want to do and what you can outsource.

What ever you are skilled in that you enjoy doing you should do and outsource everything else if you can!

Time management and prioritising of tasks can be hard for some people.

(I know it is for me! )

When I first started studying online I would get lost for hours and hours and then realise I hadn’t achieved anything. Over the last couple of years I have slowly worked out how to time manage my tasks better, especially when I have such limited time around my little one and there is so much to learn!

For those of you that find it difficult to prioritise and organise your time, Raymond gave us an exercise to do to help….

Prioritising And Time Management Exercise

1 – Write down every single thing that you do a week! All the little and big things in both business and personal life. Keep a journal of all the tasks you do and approximately how long you spend on them. things like washing, cooking, kids to school, emailing, phoning, post office tasks, cleaning, selling, working etc etc etc etc. To the detail………

2 – Put an ‘A’ next to the tasks that you ‘Love’ that earn you money!

3 – Put a ‘C’ next to the tasks that you ‘Hate’ doing, don’t want to do and don’t enjoy doing at all!

4 – Everything else is a ‘B’. These are the tasks that you normally do without much of a fuss, eg making breakfast, drive the car, pick up the kids, etc etc etc

5 – Delete 1 ‘C’ item! Go through your ‘C’ items and see if you can outsource those tasks to someone else. The aim is to eventually delete all of your ‘C’ tasks as you can and as you can afford.

Once we eliminate the ‘C’ tasks our time will free up where we can focus on doing all the ‘A’ and ‘B’ tasks and do them well.

“When you start delegating, you start getting rich”

5 – SELECT AN EXIT STRATEGY

Do you have an exit strategy?

Is your business able to be sold?

It is important to have an ‘Exit Strategy Plan’ and to set up your business so it can be managed and eventually sold. You may not want to sell your business at this stage, however there may come a time when you do want to and you will need to be prepared for this.

6 – SELECT 5 LEAD SOURCES FOR PROSPECTS

Raymond recommends for our business or product to be successful we should have at least 20 lead generation sources.

Some examples of lead generation resources depending on the business are:

Billboards, Referrals, A Facebook Page, Youtube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Ezine Articles, Blog, Radio, TV, Appearances, Magazine Contributions, Google Adwords, Event Managements, Facebook Ads, Speeches, Networking Groups, Free Publicity, Press Releases, Newspaper Adverts, Posters and many more…….

(This is just the tip of the iceberg and relates to both online and offline business)

The idea should be to try and add a new lead source at least every month. Set up the lead source properly so it can be tracked, tweaked and tested.

7 – STORYBOARD YOUR PROSPECTING FUNNEL

You will need to map out how a prospect finds you and then what you want them to do.

Is it to buy a product, phone you, email you, sign up to your list etc etc?

Think about the steps you want your prospects to make to eventually become your client.

(A great way to storyboard your funnel is to use a mind mapping software, or just write it out! )

One point that is important to remember is it can often take up to 6 forms of contact before your prospect will become your client.

Some prospects will become clients straight away, and some after 2 different contacts. The average is 6!.

(A good book I read some time ago that explained this theory in more detail was “Choose And Grow Your Own Business In 90 Days” by Wendy Evans)

Think about the different stages of your prospect and map out the different steps you need to prepare for your prospect to become your client.

8 – ESTABLISH 3 LEVELS OF CLIENTS

According to Raymond there can be at least 3 different levels of clients if not more. So many people fall into the trap of just offering 1 level or 1 price.

Doing this can alienate other client level of potentials. this is where the up-selling and down-selling comes into play.

In your business you will have clients that will remain at your first level. They may be the kind of people that don’t have the budget to pay more or just don’t like paying more or may buy the first level and choose to upgrade at a later point.

(This is me! I often buy first level and if I like what I see then I upgrade down the track even if it costs me more.)

Your second level client will quite happily buy your first level and take the up-sell or upgrade straight away. This could be because your up-sell may be time saving for them or they are the kind of clients that like to pay that little bit more for a product because of the perceived value etc etc

And your third level of client will want the whole kitchen sink. The budget does not matter, they want everything that you are offering and will pay the money and do the up-sells accordingly.

Each level of client has different psychology triggers on how they buy.

Here is an example to describe the different levels:

Purchase Level

$0-50 Bronze

$50-100 Silver

$100-500 Gold

$500-1,000 Platinum

$1,000-5,000 Diamond

$5,000-10,000 Titanium

                    etc etc etc

The idea would be to aim to move our clients slowly up the ‘$ Level Ladder‘ as we introduce more products into our sales funnel and gain their trust and loyalty.

There are some customers that won’t change levels, that is why it is important to consider the types of clients and customers you are aiming for and to target your products accordingly.

Every time we create a product or set up a system we need to think about how we can charge more and offer more to create the different levels for our prospective clients.

Another way to look at the different levels of client is as follows:

Prospect = Someone who is interested in your product but hasn’t bought. They may have signed up to receive a free product but actually haven’t made a first purchase.

Customer = Someone who has bought once and may have taken the first or second upgrade. Customers may buy a couple of your products this way.

Client = Someone who has taken all the upgrades and buys nearly every product you create or recommend.

Raymond relates the 3 level client to the 3 level bucket pricing structure.

(I will explain more about this in a future blog post.)

————————————————–

Summary

Hello All,

Welcome to Part 5 of my summary of Raymond Aaron’s 2011 Blueprint To Success Seminar as part of my Internet Marketers Seminar Speakers Series’……….

For those of you following this series….. How did you find Part 4??

(If you haven’t read part 4 yet click here: Raymond Aaron Part 4)

What did you think of knowing our business indicators and how to analyze them?

I think a lot of businesses need to take more notice of these factors, especially with the climate conditions of the world’s economy over the next few years.

So many businesses are going under at the moment and I believe not knowing their business indicators and being able to adapt and change would be a big reason why.

So are you ready for part 5?

I hope so!

I have a lot to get through and more gold nuggets to share, so with out further comment lets get started………..

Raymond Aaron’s 2011 Blueprint To Success Seminar – Part 5

So in following on from where I left off before, the next round of training takes place in the late afternoon and into the next morning of day 2….

Here is more of what we learned……..

Understanding Heterogeneous & Homogeneous Alliances

Like the heading!!

Sounds a little sus I know, but it isn’t trust me!!

In business it is important to develop alliances in order to grow, improve and advance successfully.

These alliances can be business to business or business to client and are often referred to as either heterogeneous, homogeneous and strategic alignments.

According to Raymond, developing the alliances are the only way to grow a business for the long term.

Now fingers crossed I will do my best to explain their definitions as I was taught.

HETEROGENEOUS ALLIANCES

The definition of heterogeneous means: the same, different or un-alike.

Therefore in business terms a heterogeneous alliance could occur between 2 different businesses that offer different services that may be involved in the same niche.

For Example:

A Shoe store aligning with a Shoe repair service.

Other examples could be: A nail salon aligning with a hairdressing salon. A spray tanner/make-up artist aligning with a model photographer. A jewelry repair service aligning with a jewelry store. A jewelry store aligning with a specialist insurance company that offers specific jewelry insurance and so on and so on……

If we want to grow our businesses clientele base we should try and think of and find other types of un-related businesses that offer a different service that may have similar types of clients to us.

In the online worlds’ case this could be a computer technician aligning with a computer store or a web hosting company etc etc

The idea would be to approach these businesses and offer to cross promote your business to each others clients or better yet, split the bill and do a joint promotion together.

(I used to recommend these techniques a lot in my marketing manual to my spray tanning training clients.)

HOMOGENEOUS ALLIANCES

The definition of homogeneous means: the same kind, alike.

In business terms, this occurs when you align your business with another business that has the same interests as you.

For Example:

You are an offline educator and you want to teach online, therefore you can align with a webinar training company to set up online tutorials.

Another example could be a hairdresser and a make-up artist aligning together to run a workshop together.

In the online world, an example could be a software programming company aligning with a website developer to create a product together.

STRATEGIC ALLIANCES

According to ‘Wikipedia’ one of the definitions of strategic is: Carefully designed or planned to serve a particular purpose or advantage.

So in business terms, a strategic alliance can occur from both heterogeneous and homogeneous alliances as well as you can be more specific on who you associate and align with.

For Example:

An inventor has made a fantastic kitchen gadget that every chef would want and needs a really good marketer or promoter to take his product to market.

“A business can not grow and become successful with out these types of alliances.”

3 Ways To Sell More Stuff

According to Raymond there are only 3 ways to sell more stuff.

To charge more money per order, item or service

To have a larger number of people buying

To have your clients order more often and buy more products

(When you read those 3 points above it sounds pretty simple, the trick is to find the clients!! More on that another time I think that is a whole blog post in itself!)

Raymond’s Rules Of Wealth

In this section of the seminar we were taught some of the simple rules of wealth in the form of some common sayings. They were shown to us on power point and then we were to think about them…….

“The difference between broke people and rich people is ACTION!”

“Every successful entrepreneur has had failures…… It is part of the process”

“Action will remove the doubts that theory can not solve”

“It is better to decide, it’s better to make the wrong decision than no decision at all”

“Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned” – Peter Marshall

“You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great” – Les Brown

“Success Is Taking ACTION”

————————————————–

Summary

OK so I think I have bombarded you with more than enough information to absorb for this post.

I think that is enough for now…..

In part 6 I will be covering Raymond’s teachings on “How The Rich Get Rich In Business” This is going to be a big one and I will probably have to break it down to 2 posts.

Plus I still have to cover “Raymond’s Marketing Process”, “How To Get Rich Online”, “Intentional Congruence And You” and “The Business Of The Future”.

I do hope you are enjoying this series and I also hope everything is going well for you where ever you are in the world….

Hello All,

OK so yes it has been a little while again since my last post and once again I do apologise.

My family and I have been quite sick over the last couple of weeks with that dreaded winter flu.

First my daughter, then my hubby, then me, then my hubby again, then my daughter again and then me, plus the 2 dogs got kennel cough and all I needed was for the cat to start sneezing! hahahahaha

All I could do was look at the funny side and take some time out.

Now to tell you the truth I had planned on writing the 5th part to my series on Raymond Aaron from his “Blueprint To Success’ seminar.

(If you want to read about Raymond’s seminar here is a link to my previous post: Blueprint To Success Part 4)

However…………

In the last 24 hours I have been heavily involved with a few fellow students from the Learn With Sally group on facebook discussing problems with websites and wordpress hacking issues.

(Thank you Barry Wells & Ian Ieba for the inspiration for this blog post!)

Some of you may or may not know but over the last 2 years my blog has been hacked a couple of times.

The first time this happened I absolutely freaked!

I had no idea what was happening and was absolutely beside myself.

Luckily for me the good people over at D9 Hosting helped me out and got my blog back on track.

After that first attack I went on a bit of a mission and learned a little bit about wordpress blog security and after the last 24 hours I thought I should take the time and share with you my ‘Hacker Defense Policy’!

So what is my ‘Hacker Defense Policy’ you may ask?

Well it is a series of plugins that I have religiously installed into every single blog I have set up and I suggest you do too!

Defense Policy Plugin Number 1!

‘WordPress Firewall Plugin’

This plugin allows you to set up a firewall for your blog and only allow certain ip addresses to have access to your blog. Anytime someone tries to access your site that is not from one of your dedicated ip addresses you will receive an email to let you know.

Inside the email you receive will be the offending code the hacker has tried to use as well as their ip address they have tried to attack from so you can look up where they are from.

Pretty cool huh!

(If you want to know more about ‘WordPress Firewall Plugin’ click this link here: WP Firewall)

Defense Policy Plugin Number 2!

‘Limit Login Attempts’

This plugin is also a brilliant plugin to have installed to fight against the hackers. This plugin will email you whenever someone has attempted to login in to your blog incorrectly.

You will also find out what the ip address that has attempted to login as well so again you can look up these little sneaky buggers!

(If you want to know more about the ‘Limit Login Attempts’ plugin click this link here: Limit Login)

Defense Policy Plugin Number 3!

‘WordPress File Monitor’

This plugin is GOLD!

This is the plugin that has let me know every time one of my sites has actually been hacked! This plugin will monitor your site whenever a file is added or removed or changed.

You can schedule this plugin to scan your site as regularly as you want and email you if there are any alerts.

(If you want to know more about the ‘WordPress File Monitor’ plugin click this link here: WP File Monitor)

The above 3 plugins are an absolute must!

Extra Defense & Protection

There are a couple more plugins that I use as part of my arsenal which are;

‘WordPress Security Scan’

This plugin will scan your blog and let you know if you have any vulnerabilities and then make suggestions on how to fix the vulnerabilities, plus there is a password tool and you can do a database back up with this plugin as well.

(If you want to know more about the ‘WordPress Security Scan’ plugin click this link here: WordPress Security)

‘WordPress Database Backup’

This plugin will allow you to set a schedule to automatically do a backup of you wordpress blog’s database and any other folders or files you want backed up regularly and emailed to you whenever you want.

This protects you just in case you have any problems and every have to run your blog to a back up.

Luckily I haven’t yet had to do this as truthfully I wouldn’t know what to do.

(If you want to know more about the ‘WordPress Database Backup’ plugin click this link here: WP Database Backup)

—————————————————————————————-

So there you have it!

“My Hacker Defense Plugin Arsenal!”

If you want to know more about wordpress security there is a great blog I regularly read by Alex Syseof called ‘How To Spotter’.

When I first got hacked nearly 2 years ago I did a google search and found my way onto Alex’s blog. It was reading a few posts on the blog that taught me how to become a little security savy.

I am sure there is probably more we can do to secure our blogs, but at least the information I have shared with you so far is a start.

I have just done a quick search on Alex’s blog and found the 3 articles that helped me, so if you want some further reading on blog security read the following posts:

Suggested WordPress Backup Plugins

The Triple P Of WordPress Security

5 Steps To Practical WordPress Security

—————————————————————————–

So your job now is to go and secure your blog from those blasted hackers!

I am not kidding when I say that there is a hacking attempt on my website every day because there is.

I am sure they should have something better to do but obviously there are people in this world that get a buzz out of taking people’s websites down and annoying the crap out of us.

So has your blog been hacked before?

What defense do you have set up for your websites?

I would love to know, please leave a comment below……..

The more we can help each other out the more secure we can be.

Tis time for me to sign off as I have a little one calling out for some tucker!

I hope everything is going well for you where ever you are in the world….

So until next time……..

“One day, one hour, one minute & one task at a time will lead you to your dreams”

“To Follow Or Be Followed”

That is the question……. hahahahaha, sorry but I couldn’t resist that one…..

Must be the fact that I have been up since 6am from doing my training with “Learn With Sally”.

Yes my eyes feel like they are hanging out of my head!

Alright Alright…… let me get to the point before I completely loose the plot.

Mr Barry Wells has recently set us all a little challenge as part of a traffic tactic to win a competition that Sally is running.

Yes Barry you sly fox! I know what you are up to!

Barry has challenged us all to create a video for our blog showing something we can do, upload the video to Youtube and then share it!

(You can read Barry’s post here: “Barry’s Challenge”)

When I first read Barry’s post I thought “No way am I going to get that done in time, especially when I have never done that before!”

Yes I have been experimenting with Camtasia, but to tell you the truth I have never published a video for the public to see!

GULP!

So about an hour ago I thought “Bugga it! Let’s get this done!”

And in the last hour I have managed to create a Camtasia tutorial.

(I haven’t edited it at all. This is a raw video with all the ‘ums’ and ‘aha’s’ included.)

Plus I have uploaded it to ‘YouTube’ and I am now sharing it with you!

Talk about kicking my own butt!

So without further comment, here is my very first video training blog post teaching you how I use a great little website called “Manage Flitter” to find out who I am following who isn’t following me back and deleting them.

“How To Use Manage Flitter To UnFollow People On Twitter”

(How to find out who you are following and who isn’t following you back!)

Enjoy!

So what do you think?

Do you like it?

“Manage Flitter” is an awesome little free tool I have found recently and so far I am loving it.

OK so now I had better flutter away to go watch some more training videos.

I have so much to catch up on it isn’t funny. That is what I get for getting sick!

I hope everything is going well for you where ever you are in the world….

“One day, one hour, one minute & one task at a time will lead you to your dreams”
