Good Bye 2009! Hello 2010!

Hello All,

It is about time I update and say an official hello! :)

The last few weeks I have mainly been concentrating on posting further summaries of my training and I do intend to post many more over the next coming weeks, so for those of you that are enjoying them stay tuned! :P

This post is all about the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010. Looking back on some of my posts over the last 12 months it is amazing to see how much I have learned and how much I have grown. I am only a newbie to this industry of online business development and marketing, however already I am knowledgeable to help others.

I am starting to feel like I have a brain again! Not bad for a x stripper from way back! Yes for those of you who may not already know I was a stripper very early in my adult years. Not a choice I would make again if I had my time over, but I do believe I would not be the person I am today if not for the history of living that world!

Having had some hard decisions and choices in life, when my daughter was born nearly 3 years ago my world went through a shift. Suddenly I realized I had to create a future for my child and one that I want her to be proud of. I knew that I wanted a business from home that I could operate around her, and after many years of in and out of jobs, trying new things, operating different businesses as well as the dark world of stripping I knew I had to come up with something!

Hence my stepping into the world of online business. Over the years I have studied and completed a few different government accredited courses in training and business. I used to teach at Beauty School and I did have a very successful mobile Spray Tanning and teaching business, however I didn’t want to leave my little one in daycare to go out and work outside the home so the last 18 months I have been studying how to create a business online.

In 2008 I signed up for John Thornhill’s original 16 week coaching program (This has now turned in to his Masterclass Program) and attended a seminar called “How To Make Money While You Sleep” by Brett McFall. Doing these 2 things in 2008 was the beginning of my online business journey and the beginning of my future for my daughter, which brings us to 2009!! :D

I have achieved way more than I thought I would. Truthfully I think it has been because I have retained momentum. I made a decision at the beginning of 2009 that I would do something towards my online business training every week, even if it was only 2 hours! Some weeks I dedicated more time if I could and there were some weeks when I only did an hour. The point is I did something every week and the momentum has paid off!

The following achievements are not in any chronological order, but here is a summary of my 2009:

2009 Achievements:

  1. Started John Thornhill’s Masterclass Course in May 2009. (I actually signed up in the Feb, but didn’t begin until May. I am still writing the summaries! )
  2. In February 2009 I launched my first ebook selling website www.spraytanningsuccess.com. (There is still so much more I could do with this site and I still have some ebooks I want to add to it, however at least it is online! :P )
  3. Attended the World Internet Summit on the Gold Coast in March 2009. ( I highly recommend going to one of these types of events if you can! I have learned so much and they are a great motivator.)
  4. Created my ebook and software website www.jadsbookshop.com. (Still more I could do with this. It hasn’t made any sales yet. :( )
  5. Created my first niche website www.jadsbeautyspot.com. (Still heaps more I need to do with this too! I still need to get approved as an ebay affiliate! A job for the new year! :) )
  6. Updated my ebay membership and shop ready for a launch of selling in 2010. (I used to be an avid seller with spray tanning, however the last 2 years I have not been very active. I have 2 sheds full of junk I want to eliminate this year as well I want to get back into regularly selling online. :) )
  7. Attended the Dream Life seminar in September 2009. (This seminar was run by the same people that run the World Internet Summit series.)
  8. I started becoming more active with my blogging and developing this website about online business training around June 2009. (I have so many plans on the topics I want to introduce to the site, you will just have to wait a little more! :D )
  9. I participated in the 30 Day Challenge training program that is run from June-August 2009. (This training is run every year live from June-August and it is FREE. I didn’t complete the training in the time frame, however I implemented what I have learned so far. I still have the training downloaded so I will refer to it at a later stage.)
  10. I have bought quite a few programs this year and memberships and ebooks. Some of which I haven’t even read yet or done! (My goal for 2010 is to only buy software or programs that I need, not programs that I think I will use one day. I have been an internet marketers dreams the last 18 months, however now that I am a little more savvy and knowledgeable I know what I need and don’t need! :D )

The following list is a quick summary of the little things I have learned along the way.

2009′s The Little Things:

  1. How to create a blog from scratch.
  2. How to create a salespage website, upload it and launch it with paydotcom to receive sales and gain affiliates.
  3. I learned a lot about blogging and community blogging.
  4. I learned about blog security and the importance of plugins.
  5. I learned about Firefox and a few of its addons.
  6. I discovered the positive uses of Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Ustream and more. (I am still only scratching the surface here.)
  7. I learned the importance of tagging and the very basics of search engine optimisation.
  8. I have started to learn about alexa and page ranking and how to understand the importance of them in website development. (I am still a complete newbie to this! ;) )
  9. I have learned the very basics of some html to be able to make changes to my blog and cloak my links etc etc. (There is so much to learn!!!! Too much!!)
  10. Recently I have been learning about the importance of web laws and being compliant with the international laws of selling to people in other countries. (This has come about from USA changing their FTC laws, I will write more about this at another time. :) )
  11. I was reminded of the importance of backing up your work from my experience with 2 crashed hard drives. (I now have a good back up system and if I loose anything now, it is only a couple of days worth. My loss of data was a big learning lesson! :( )

I have learned a whole lot more I am sure over the last 12 months, but the points here are the ones I feel are the most significant.

Here are some links to my daily task post that show what I have learned in more detail. I started the daily tasks post in July so I could show the little tasks that need to be done to learn how to create a business online.

I haven’t created a Daily Tasks post for December yet. I will do that in the next few days. My intention now is to write a post once a month (Approximately at the end of the month :) Don’t quote me on that! ) giving an outline of my daily tasks over the month to show what needs to be done each day to keep the momentum going for learning all about internet business.

2009 has been an amazing year for me learning and growing and for truly believing that I can create a business online as long as I stay focused and determined. I am looking forward to the future and 2010. I have started my list of goals I want to achieve and I will cover that in about a weeks time.

I hope you have all had a fantastic festive season and thank you so much for being a loyal reader.

So until next time…

Enjoy Your Learning!

  1. Hi Jacinta,

Thank you for leaving a comment for me on my blog, I thought I’d drop by and see what you are up to!

That is quite a list of achievements you have there and it’s great to be able to see how far you have come in a short space of time.

I hope you are finding John’s coaching useful. I have had the pleasure to meet him in person and he’s a top bloke!

    Hi David,

Thank you for popping by!

John’s coaching is great. I have nearly finished the program. I have learned heaps and wouldn’t be doing what I am doing if I hadn’t have signed up. It was definitely a good decision in 2008.

I didn’t realise how much I had actually learned until I wrote this post. I was humbled and proud at the same time.

See you on your blog soon!

  2. Jacinta…
I find your honesty absolutely refreshing! You make me smile.
This must seem very low key compared to your past…on the other hand, the variables in this business drive me crazy!
I am pulling for your success Jacinta!

    Hi Kathy,
 I figured it easier to be honest about me than not. I do believe it is important for people to know where we have come from and how we have arrived to where we are.

In some ways this is a lot quieter, however like you I can find this whole business very confusing as there is so much to learn and the industry changes every day!

See you on your blog soon!

  3. Jacinta WOW! That’s an excellent summary of your efforts online this year. There’s so much great information for people to read and to see what it’s really like to build an online business. All of your work is awesome and so are you! Steve D. :)

Oh gush! Thank you for the kind words.

I do hope this site will be a great learning place for newbies. I have some big plans for the future of it. I want to tweak ad change it a little and add some new sections over time. One day and one thing at a time is my motto! ;)

See you on your blog soon!

  4. Hey Jacinta, you have been busy! I started blogging about 9 months ago and it’s been a huge learning curvwe even though I’ve been doing web design and web copy writing for over 10 years.

It sounds as if you’ve come up with some great niche ideas to explore. Success isn’t going to happen overnight, probably not for years but if you keep at it, with your great attitidue, you should do well in the end.

  5. Hello Jacinta

    I enjoyed reading your blog.
As you said It’s Important that if you have set yourself to work 2 hours aday sticking to it, If anyone wants success they have to work for it.
    Keep up the good work

    Hi Dean,

Nice to meet you and thank you for popping by!

It is hard to keep to a schedule with my 2 year old, but I do try my best and grab time where I can. As long as I do something everyday it keeps the momentum flowing slowly.

Hope to see you back here soon. I will pop past your blog and have a visit! :P

  6. Whoa! That’s a lot of work you’ve knocked out!

One thing you’re likely seeing is how fast everything changes. Both the technical and the marketing side. They are coupled to some extent.

What’s coming down the pike is pretty amazing. Wave hasn’t even caught on yet, but it will. And it will change things as well.

I completely agree with how fast things are changing and growing. Just when I think I understand there is new software, new techniques etc to learn! I guess that is the whole learning process!! :)

See you on your blog soon!

  7. Hi Jacinta,

I’m where you started in ’08.
I feel so lucky to have stumbled across your site.
I’m excited about the future and like eating the elephant I’m going to take it one bite at a time.
Information overload was my biggest concern but i hope :) i have a handle on that now.
Looking forward to your next blog.
Happy new year and wishing you all the best for the now & the future. :)

    Hi Fiana,

Thank you for popping by!

I remember where I was when I first made the decision to sign up for John’s first coaching program. My little girl had just turned one and I knew I needed to get a wriggle on if I was going to create a business online for her. The business side is still very much in its infancy, however I am moving along slowly.

One step at a time is the best way to go. as long as we do something every day even if it is just writing notes, it still keeps the momentum going.

I hope you had a great festive season.

See you back here soon! :P

  8. Hi Jacinta,

This post is a very comprehensive summary of your endeavors and you’ve accomplished a lot.

I think that 2010 will be even better for you if you keep it up.

And I believe that you will.

Your attitude is great and it will take you where you want to be.

    Things can only get easier.

I’m with you on the problem of having bought everything you thought you might need.

I’ve bought too many courses as well. December was the last time for me. No more until everything I have is learned, internalized and used.

That will take at least a year or two I guess.

Thank you for popping by!

I didn’t realise how much I had achieved until I went back through my posts. The daily tasks posts really helped when working it out.

I can so relate to buying the courses and then having them sit on your computer hard drive. This year for me is to actually go through them all, implement and learn before buying anymore. I think I have bought enough. I am sure I have enough on my hard drive as it is!!

Wishing you heaps of success too! See you on your blog soon!

  9. Hey Jacinta,

An x stripper huh, all I see is a mother taking care of her almost 3 year old baby. I think you should be proud of your 2009 achievements and everything you have learned along the way. This business is not easy by any means and there is a ton of stuff to learn.

Good Luck to you in 2010 and beyond!

 Yes on the stripper! I decided to be honest about my past to show where I have come from and how I have turned my life around slowly over time.

Eventually I want to teach and help other women that have similar backgrounds to mine to show them they can change their lives if they want to too!! They just have to have the right motivation! :)

I completely agree this business is not easy and there is way to much to learn at times. Talk about information overload! I do think it will be a really good year for us all.

See you on your blog soon!

  10. Hi Jacinta

    Jacinta :D

  11. Jacinta, you make a very interesting point. It seems like we all tend to leapfrog a little, buying courses, ebooks and coaching programs.

Then a point is reached where you decide enough…I’m going to stick with, and master, this one approach. Of course, you have to learn enough up till that point to be able to evaluate and decide which IS the best course of action for you.

I admire your self-discipline in maintaining your blog, it’s impressive and I’m adding you to Digg.

It is very easy to get side tracked in this industry with everyone bringing out the new latest and greatest product. I do completely agree with you that you need to learn enough to get to the point where you can focus on one thing at a time. I think too many people want to learn the quick fix and don’t realise that this industry is the same as developing an offline business. It all takes time, focus, perseverance and determination!

Hope to see you back here soon! I will pop past and visit you! :P

    Cheers
