John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Master Class Coaching Program Week 10!
Hello All,
Welcome to Week 10 of John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Training Masterclass Coaching Program.
I am being very clever at the moment. I am pre-writing these posts a couple of days before actually posting them. I thought I would learn how to use the scheduling feature in my dashboard, so instead of saving the posts to draft and then uploading them, I am actually scheduling the post to upload in a couple of days of writing. As I write this it is the 18th of November. I think I will schedule the post to upload the 22nd of November.
(I just thought that I would share that I am learning a new thing!
)
So lets begin with this weeks tasks…….
Internet Marketing Masterclass Week 10: Initial Product Creation
This week was all about beginning the actual product creation process. We were sent 3 Audio files and 5 Videos to download and listen to plus our usual checklist of tasks to do.
Instead of sending our welcome letter in pdf form, John sent us some audio files to show us the different types of products we can create such as a ‘pdf’ document, audio and video like the ones we watch and read for our training.
Audio 1: Product Creation Tips Part 1
In this audio we are introduced to the different ways of creating products and that the better we make our product, the better our product will be!
We need to look at ways we can add value to the product and not just write an ebook. Maybe we can add some audio to the book, such as interviews with experts in our niche, or maybe we can add videos if we are teaching some one ‘How to’.
Adding more to our ebook will increase the perceived value of our overall product. It is very hard to sell an ebook for more than $47 without adding more content. Even the big Guru’s have trouble selling ebooks alone for over this price!
John believes the most successful type of product is a combination of ‘pdf’ documents (our ebook and other reports we may include), audio and video. The idea is that the more content we provide, the different types of formats we provide, the more successful our product will be.
Audio 2: Product Creation Tips Part 2
In this audio John talks about the importance of creating our own original works. It is plagiarism to copy another person’s work. we can use other people’s products for research and learning, but it is imperative not to copy! Copying someone else’s original work is against international law!
Another thing that can help us in our idea development is to have a note book handy where we can jot ideas down when we have them.
(I actually have a few notebooks lying around. One is for tasks I need to do, one is for my ideas and one is for research notes. I also carry a pocket size notebook that travels with me in my bag.)
Ideas can happen in the weirdest places. I often get ideas in my shower, yes I know that is an odd place but my best ideas have occurred when I have been surrounded by water. Other ideas have occurred at shopping centres, driving my car, out with friends. Truthfully I never get ideas from just sitting at my computer! ![]()
Video 1: Order Domain Name
Once we have our niche worked out and we are in the product development phase, the next task is to think of the title for our product and order the domain name.
It is often best to brain storm ideas for our product title and often it is good to bounce a few ideas with trusted friends, family, associates or visiting the forum for suggestions. Once we have the title picked we then need to order the domain name that is the same as the title of our product if we can get it.
John believes it is important to try and order our ‘domain.com’ eg: www.producttitle.com. Dotcom (.com) is the most recognized domain prefix world wide. If we can’t get ‘.com’, then we should try to hyphen in-between the words, eg: www.product-title.com. If we can’t get the hyphen either, then we should consider www.producttitle.net or www.producttitle.org, and then hyphen accordingly if need be.
Basically the best domain name prefixes are ‘.com’, ‘.net’, or ‘.org’, ‘.com being the first preference. I order my domain names through a company called “1 And 1″, most domain registration companies charge similar prices.
Video 2: Order Website And Product Graphics
Once we have our domain name ordered, then next step in the product creation phase is to order some graphics for our product.
As students of John’s we were given a discount if we ordered our graphics with Planet Divinity. We were offered a nearly 25% off and they would create a complete website template for us including a header, footer, background image, buy now button, merchant graphics and product graphics.
(I have used Planet Divinity for all my graphics. They are awesome! Excellent graphics and brilliant customer service!
)
Video 3: Download Open Office
In this video John introduces us to “Open Office”. This is a free program available from www.openoffice.org, and is perfect to use to write and edit documents for those of us that don’t have access to Microsoft Office.
We were shown:
- How to access the open office free download
- How to download and install the software
- How to start a document file
- And how to do some basic editing
Open Office is an easy program to use. If you can write an email or use Microsoft Word, then you can use Open Office Writer. The best thing about Open Office is that it is free!! You don’t have to pay the hundreds you do for Microsoft Office!
Video 4: Arrange Chapters
In this video John gets us started on our ebook layout, showing us how an ebook should be structured. It is recommended to create our ebook shell to begin with and then add content as the book develops.
Basic Ebook Structure:
- Title Page
- Publisher/Author details
- Disclaimer
- Contents Page
- Author Introduction
- Chapter 1
- Chapter 2
- Chapter 3
- Chapters etc etc
- Conclusion
- Appendices or Bibliography Reference Page if needed
That is just the basic standard outline that is suggested and each author has their own individual style of how they may want their ebook layout to look like. This structure at least gives us something to start with.
John shows us:
- How to format the structure of our ebook and add in the initial ebook pages with Open Office
Video 5: Help! I Can’t Write
Writing may be easy for some of us and hard for others. In this video John introduces us to “Elance”. (A website where we can hire a ghost writer to help write our book if we are struggling to write or have the budget to do so.
There are heaps and heaps of people that outsource their writing to ghostwriters and half the time we would have no idea that that has occurred! A ghostwriter will write the basics of the ebook and then all we have to do is read it, edit it and add anything else to it such as images etc.
Another website we are introduced to is “PLR Monthly”. A membership program that provides you with 4 professional PLR (Private Label Rights) books and articles every month including a mini website template and ecover graphics. Considering an average ghostwriter ebook can cost between $500-$1,000 on average, joining a private label membership program is not as silly as it sounds.
A private label rights (plr) ebook or some people may refer to ‘plr’ as white label is an document where unless the ghostwriter author has placed restrictions on it, you can do what ever you like with the contents. you can edit it, add images to it, break it down to articles, create web content etc etc and you can put your name to it as the author!
For approximately the cost of a yearly “PLR Monthly” membership, that would only be 2 private label books from a ghostwriter. A private label membership for a year would give us approximately 60 professional private label rights ebooks.
Another website that sells private label content products that is well worth its value is “Resell Rights Fortune”. You can have 3 levels of membership with them, 2 different monthly memberships or a lifetime one.
(I actually signed up to the lifetime membership in June of this year and the value of the membership is awesome. I have been able to download 90 different products per month. So far I have downloaded over 550! I still don’t know what I am going to do with them all yet!
)
If we choose to use a private label product to help us with our ebook and product development process, it is recommended that we get new graphics made up. It is also very important to make the product our own by editing it, and adding to it with our own research and opinions etc.
A private label product can be a good way to start a product by using it as a base to begin with and let it grow from there. ![]()
Week 10 Checklist:
Our checklist tasks for week 10 were:
- Buy and carry a notebook everywhere and write down everything we think of
- Brainstorm in the masterclass forum with fellow students and ideas for topic titles
- Choose a name for our product preferably no more that 4 words long
- Buy product domain name from “1 and 1″
- Order our product graphics from Planet Divinity
- Download Open Office if we need a document word processor
- Think about topics to discuss for chapters
- Start creating our ebook structure
- Sign up to PLR Monthly or Resell Rights Fortune if needing help to write our ebook to source private label material
- Research “Elance” if we want to use a ghostwriter to write our ebook
- Continue visiting fellow student and marketers blogs and make comments where possible
- Continue posting to our blogs
Like I mentioned earlier I am a member of “PLR Monthly” and “Resell Rights Fortune”, I haven’t done anything with my products yet however I will say that the quality of the private label stuff I have sourced so far is excellent and perfect for my future needs. (I have a few big plans in the pipeline for over the next 12 months.
) You can find private label products on just about any niche you can think of such as, health, weight-loss, relationships, parenting, recipes, sports, business, wealth, psychology, crafts, family, religion etc etc etc.
For my first ebook I actually wrote it myself, as my product was about training someone how to spray tan. Because the topic is a very micro niche subject I knew that it would be better if the product was written in my own words from my experience as a spray tanner, trainer and qualified educator.
OK so that is week 10 wrapped up.
So until next time……..

P.P.S John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Masterclass Coaching may be closed at the moment. He has just started the new 2010 program and he only ever takes a limited amount of students at a time so as to dedicate himself to our learning, basically it is a first in first served situation.
Update 10/4/2010: John has just released a one month $4.95 trial to Masterclass meaning you can sign up for $4.95 and trial the training. As far as I know he is limiting these places. If you see a sold out sign, then do sign up to be notified when there are new places available again.
This training program was the best decision I ever made. I would not be doing what I am today if it wasn’t for John. I can not recommend this program enough!

Hi Jacinta,
I see you’ve been busy blogging about the coaching again, and it’s good to see you’re up to the product creation modules… I’ve been looking forward to you writing about these.
I’m just about to release my own free ebook, I could of done with these tips sooner.
But I muddled through it and managed to write a fairly lengthy ebook.
I will definitely be looking at these tips again, as I’m sure it won’t be long before I start writing another ebook.
Great post!
Paul.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for popping by!
I am sorry on the delay in my posts, life got in the way a little and the computer decided to get a little sick and go to the shop!
All is good now, and I have pre loaded some posts in. I had a good writing day the other day, hubby was taking care of little one.
Congrats on the launch of your book. I will pop over and sign up so I can get a copy!
Hope all is great. I will see you on your blog soon!

Hooray, I’ve finally caught up with your lesson 10 Jacinta.
I see you have scheduled posts. I do this when I am on holiday, but otherwise I don’t bother. I just save the post in draft, and upload when I choose. (I often decide to upload a different post).
I think there is a SEO issue with scheduled posts, and editing. Unfortunately I’m not as organised as you, and didn’t note down what the issue was.
My solution was to avoid scheduling, unless I had to,(due to holidays). I hope this helps.
