John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Master Class Coaching Program Week 18!

jtmaster

Hello All,

Welcome to Week 18 of John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Training Masterclass Coaching Program.

Yes I am still madly trying to write up all my training summaries  So with out further comment lets begin with this weeks tasks…….

Internet Marketing Masterclass Week 18: Sales Page Creation Part 2

Week 18 is all about developing the ‘guts’ of the sales letter so to speak! :P This week we will be introducing the bullet points, the benefits and features of our product, creating our testimonials and making our offer to buy.

We were sent our usual list of tasks and welcome summary as well as we had 3 videos to download and watch.

Video 1: Introducing Bullets And Benefits To Our Sales Page

In this video John talks about adding the benefits of our product in bullet form to our sales page. Adding features and benefits is discussed in Section 14 – Template step 4 of Randy’s ebook “Sales Letter ABC”, and as most of you are aware from reading the last 2 posts we are using this ebook as our guide to creating our sales page.

Benefits and Features of a product are what your client will hope to achieve, learn or understand after they have bought and completed reading our product.

We are shown:

  1. How to create and insert a table into our sales page using ‘Page Breeze’ web authoring software.
  2. And how to create bullets & numbers inside the table to write our features and benefits

Video 2: Inserting Testimonials For Our Product

Testimonials can be normally found after the features and benefits on the sales page. Some sales pages will have testimonials scattered through out or placed in clusters. Truthfully it doesn’t really matter where you place them. Placing a couple of testimonials after the benefits will reinforce what your potential client has just read especially if the testimonials refer to your benefits and features.

If possible it is recommended to have at least 4 testimonials. If you need testimonials for a product one way is to give your product away in exchange for a testimonial. Another way to get testimonials is to ask fellow marketers or people that you may know in your niche.

We are shown:

  1. How to create a table to insert our testimonial into on our sales page
  2. How to change the tables background colour
  3. How to type the text inside the table
  4. How to align the table inside the sales page template
  5. And how to edit the size of the table if need be

Side Track Important Note:

Just recently the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the United States has brought in new laws governing the use of endorsements and testimonials. It is now very important to make sure you use honest testimonials from people that can back up and give evidence as to what they are saying. I am not a lawyer and I do recommend getting some advice or reading a little more about this before you include your testimonials.

One thing I do recommend is to get testimonials from people that will give you an honest opinion. Another option is to get testimonials from people that have actually bought your product. It is also important to include how the testimonial came about. For example did you give the product away for free in exchange for the testimonial or did the testimonial come from someone that bought your product and got the results.

For further information on the FTC Guidelines you can click on the following links:

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2009/10/endortest.shtm

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/guides/guides.shtm

http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/long link

The above links are directly to the government related regulation websites. The next link is to a well known internet marketing lawyer. He has heaps of information on his website.

http://mikeyounglaw.com/wp/

Here is another link to another internet Marketers website Terry Dean. He has written a great article and given more links for further information.

http://www.terrydean.org/the-scary-ftc/

I would also like to point out that even though these laws govern the USA it is important for all international people that do business online to comply with them especially if our websites are registered or hosted in the USA or we directly sell to customers and clients in the USA.

(Maybe I should have written this info as a separate post! :? I think I will in the future just to have it as a separate reference. :) So lets get back to the training!)

Video 3: Introducing Our Offer

Step 6 of the sales page creation process is making the offer of what our product is. The idea is to make the reader think that the product will cost more than it is. For example: Thinking that a product will cost 100′s more and actually only cost $37. The idea is to make our offer irresistible in value! :P

John recommends to have a look at previous sales pages we have actually been impulsed to buy from and have bought from. Have a read of the pages that we have saved in our swipe file. Look at the wording and try to notice the trigger words that are used.

Once we have done some research of other sales pages we should then be inspired to write the offer for our own sales page. Again John recommends for us to refer to ‘Sales Letter ABC’ – Section 16 – Template Step 6.

Week 18 Checklist:

Our checklist tasks for week 18 were:

  1. Add the bullets of our products benefits and features to our sales page
  2. Organise some testimonials for our product if we haven’t done so already
  3. Add our testimonials to our sales page
  4. Add our product offer to our sales page
  5. Visit the masterclass forum for help and communicate with our fellow students
  6. Visit other student and marketers blogs and comment where appropriate
  7. Keep posting to our blogs

We should have by now completed a good half of our sales page. Next week we will be covering the Guarantee, Call to action and Closing text. We are nearly there! :)

OK so that is week 18 wrapped up.

So until next time……..

Enjoy Your Learning!

P.P.S John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Masterclass Coaching may be closed at the moment. He has just started the new 2010 program and he only ever takes a limited amount of students at a time so as to dedicate himself to our learning, basically it is a first in first served situation.

Update 10/4/2010: John has just released a one month $4.95 trial to Masterclass meaning you can sign up for $4.95 and trial the training. As far as I know he is limiting these places. If you see a sold out sign, then do sign up to be notified when there are new places available again.

This training program was the best decision I ever made. I would not be doing what I am today if it wasn’t for John. I can not recommend this program enough! :D

  1. Hi Jacinta,

I think your proposal to John on transcribing next years masterclass was a masterstroke of which i see John is strtongly considering by his reply to you in the forum good on you and thanks for the idea, i am looking forward to this addition next year?

    Take care Jacinta….Ed.

    Hi Ed,

Thank you for popping by!

I made the suggestion thinking that John would already have a transcriber in mind. Oops on that one! I think I just gave myself a whole heap of work! :?

However in saying that I do think it would be great for people to have as an addition to the videos. I am going to put an example of what I had in mind to him and see what he thinks. Just got to get the time to do it around xmas.

See you on your blog soon! :P

  2. Hi Jacinta,

I enjoyed reading your summary of week 18 of John Thornhill’s course.

You make it sound so good that I’m almost temped to sign up.

But I already have more than enough materials to study and most importantly to implement.

The course you describe must be very good since it seems to go into a lot of detail about sales letters etc.

I think the part about testimonials is very tricky now. I hear many people saying that they are leaving them out altogether especially if they include any factual results with dollar amounts.

Testimonials like I found the product helpful are said to be OK.

I for one have never been influenced by big dollar number testimonials and those are the ones the FTC will frown on and may take action against.

Good luck with your continued study and I’ll visit your blog again.

Thank you for popping by!

And thank you for letting me know about the plugin! Should be all fixed now. I do want comments on my blog!!! Heaps and heaps! Now I know why the commenting had dropped!

I can so relate to having more than enough training to study and to implement. I am a member of a couple of really good training programs, but I never seem to get the time to focus on the 3 of them.

I have finally taken the attitude of one at a time. I am nearly finished with john’s training so I am looking forward to focusing on the others as well. There is so much to learn and so little time! :(

Re the FTC as long as we are transparent and honest I don’t think we have anything to worry about. I am actually more worried about what my affiliates do! That is what I want to find out about more.

Will see you on your blog soon! :P

    Jacinta :D

  3. Congratulations on the Masterclass transcribing Jacinta. I’m sure John will see the value of your work.

I lost interest in the original Masterclass course because I got bored with all the videos. I much prefer to read about things. But having videos AND a written transcript would be perfect.

All hard-sell sales pages have the “not £100, not £80 not even £60 BUT ONLY £37 !!” … I suppose it must work, but I don’t really like it. I would prefer to just describe and explain the value of a product and give the price. FULL STOP.

On the other hand what do I know? I haven’t made a bean out of Internet Marketing.

    Hi John,

I think the transcriptions is a great idea. I just automatically assumed John would already have someone lined up.

Although I do think it would be a great challenge for me and maybe somehow I will be able to work a product out of it.

Now I will have to hurry up and complete the summaries of this course so I can focus on the new stuff! ;)

The sales page stuff still has me confused. I like using the software and then just editing it! Yes I am a cheat!

    See you back here soon!

    Jacinta :D

  4. Hi Jacinta
Writing a sales page was something I found quite difficult. Finding the correct pitch first time round is trick. But like everything else practice makes perfect.
    Happy new year

    Hi Ann,

Merry Christmas And Happy New Year! :)

I didn’t like the sales page writing either, but definitely good to learn about. I did find using the software and Randy’s book a good help. I think copywriting is something I do want to learn in the future.

Hope all is great. See you on your blog soon!

    Jacinta :D

  5. Hi Jacinta,

Sounds like you have learnt some really good stuff about the creation of sales pages, I know who to ask now if I need any help in the future. ;)

I tend to get confused between cells and tables and always use the wrong ones, but I’m starting to get the hang of it…

I’ve only really created squeeze pages so far, and I usually just use a template of resale rights product and more recently the squeeze page generator that I found.

Anyway time for me to go and order a pizza now

I wish you all the best for 2010, and I hope it is a profitable year for you!

  6. Hi Jacinta,
I admire you for keeping up and being so thorough with writing about your progress with John’s class. I think by writing about it like that things will sink in even better, and your readers get the benefit of getting a good look into the program, which hopefully will result in a few referrals for you!
I have never been so good with writing up about the class – I enjoyed doing it and have my first product online, but have since moved on to building niche websites (http://www.petra-weiss.com/building-niche-websites-it-works.html) and am waiting for my second niche site to make it to page #1 of Google right now.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and being so active with your comments, I really appreciate it.
Have a great New Year and lots of success with your internet marketing!

It has been a hard task writing the summaries, however I have enjoyed the process so far and still have quite a few to go! ;)

I was hoping that the summaries would help people decide about the program to see what they will learn and the whole process.

I have been reading about your progress in niche websites and it is definitely something I want to learn about more in the new year so I will be popping by regularly to learn from you! :D

See you on your blog soon! :P Hope you had a great new year!

    Jacinta :D

  7. Hi Jacinta,
I should know better! I have just made a mistake I should not have done – I did not take advantage of your keywordluv feature! As somebody who has learned a lot about SEO and backlinking I was silly  not to take advantage of it. So hence this second comment, this time done right!
This is a tip for anybody trying to make it online – use the SEO improving features other bloggers provide to boost your rankings. Don’t waste them!

Biggest tip of all is to stay focused on one thing at a time and one course at a time. Doing too much definitely gets one frazzled and confused!
