John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Master Class Coaching Program Week 3!
Hello All,
Welcome to Week 3 of John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Training Masterclass Coaching Program.
As you may be aware from following my previous posts I am learning how to create an online business and one of the things that is helping me learn this process is doing John’s internet training program.
So lets begin with this weeks tasks…….
Internet Marketing Masterclass Week 3: Blog Creation Continued
This week we were sent our welcome letter for the week, our checklist and we had 8 videos to download and watch to learn what tasks we needed to do for the week. Our focus for this week is all about improving the appearance of our websites.
Video 1: Register With Google Adsense
The first thing John wants us to do this week is sign up for “Google Adsense”. Basically Google Adsense is allowing adverts to appear on our webspace.
(I am not going to go into the explanation of what Google adsense is right now as this would be another full post on its own!
If you want to learn more about Google Adsense then click here! Google Adsense. )
Google Adsense allows our websites and blogs the opportunity of earning money when the adverts are clicked on by visitors to our sites. But before I go further, NEVER NEVER NEVER CLICK ON YOUR OWN ADVERTS OR THOSE OF FRIENDS WEBSITES. Google has an algorithm that can somehow detect this and thus ban you from displaying adverts in the future.
You wont earn massive amounts from Google Adsense but you will earn some money over time as you get natural traffic to your site.
(Truthfully I have had Google Adsense installed for a year and have only earned @$20 so far!
Like I said before you wont earn a million overnight but everything adds up and counts even if it is only a couple of cents or dollars a day!)
Before you can apply for Google Adsense it is recommended that you have made at least 3-5 posts to your blog of a minimum of 200 words each post. This way Google will judge that you do have good original content and grant you a publisher identification number.
In this video we were shown:
- The Google Adsense website
- The application form we needed to fill in
- How to apply for our publisher identification number
- And how to create a Google Adsense account
Video 2: Create A Masterclass Folder
In this video John gets us to do some Masterclass housekeeping so to speak
. He asked us to create a folder dedicated to our “Masterclass Coaching Program”.
The folder we created was called “Masterclass”, John even showed us step by step how to create the folder! (I really like John’s take you by the hand style. He really does create these videos with the complete newbie in mind!
)
Video 3: Download Blog Themes
In this video John directed us to a website where we could download some themes for our blog from. The themes he picked for us to work with are by “Dosh Dosh” and they are already formatted ready for Google Adsense and have some basic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) applications with in the style sheet. (I still have no idea what this all means!,
But like a good little student I installed the theme
)
The “Prosense Adsense” ready theme that Dosh Dosh provides has 3 colours to choose from, Blue, Gray or Brown. The themes are free and you can download them from here. Dosh Dosh Prosense Adsense Ready Themes.
We were shown step by step:
- How to download the themes from Dosh Dosh’s website
- How to save the themes to our computer
Video 4: Extract Blog Files
Once we have downloaded our themes from the Dosh Dosh website, John asks us to make a folder called “Blog Themes” and to place our theme files into that particular folder.
We then have to unzip the folders as they were downloaded in a zipped format.
(You can use “Winzip” or “Winrar” to unzip files or you may already have an operating system that can do this for you without installing any extra software such as “Windows Vista” or “Windows 7″ etc. If you need unzipping software: Click here for winzip, WinZip. Or click here for winrar, WinRar
)
We are shown step by step:
- How to create our new folder “Blog Themes”
- How to access our zipped theme files
- And how to extract or unzip the files
Video 5: Add Google Adsense Code To Our Blogs
In this video John shows us step by step how to add our Google Adsense code to our blog themes before we upload the themes to our websites.
The first thing we need to do is check that we have actually been approved for Google Adsense. If we have been approved we should have already received a confirmation email from Google Adsense giving us our account details and notifying us of our publisher identification number. This number is approximately 16 digits long. We then need to copy this code into a notepad file and save it to another folder called “Google Adsense”.
Once we have done this John then shows us step by step how to place our publisher identification number into our blog theme files.
We are shown:
- How to access our Google Adsense account
- How to find our publisher identification number
- How to open up our blog theme files to the pages that need to be edited
- How to edit the files
- And how to add our Google Adsense publisher identification number into the files and save them.
Video 6: Upload Our Blog Themes
In this video John showed us how to upload our themes onto our webspace.
We were shown step by step:
- How to connect to our webspace with File Zilla
- How to find the folder and files we need to upload through the File Zilla program
- How to then upload each theme’s group of files onto our webspace
- And then how to check that we uploaded the themes correctly.
Video 7: Testing Our Blog Themes
In this video we were shown how to change our blog themes from within our blogs wordpress administration control panel.
We were shown step by step:
- How to access the Appearance Tab
- How to access the Themes Tab
- How to change, alternate and activate the different themes
- And then how to check that the new theme has been installed and activated correctly
Video 8: Order Blog Graphics
After we have changed our blog themes from the wordpress default theme John recommends that we order some graphics for our website to give our blogs their own identity and individuality. Planet Divinity agreed to make the themes for us at a special discount that John organised for us.
Ordering blog graphics is considered optional but considering how boring the basic theme looked I ordered my graphics straight away!
I ordered a header, footer, background tile and optin form. Basically a mini website but for my blog.
I have used Planet Divinity for all of my website graphics. you can check them out at my different websites:
- www.spraytanningsuccess.com (My Spray Tanning Training Manual)
- www.spraytanningtips.com (My Blog dedicated to spray tanning which is still in development)
- www.jadsbookshop.com (My website selling ebooks and software)
- www.jadsdeals.com (My ebay based website that is still in development)
- And of course this website!
I highly, highly recommend Steve and Dave from Planet Divinity, their graphics is brilliant and their customer service can not be faulted! If you need graphics be sure to check them out by clicking here. Planet Divinity.
In this video we were also shown how to edit our profile settings in our admin to create our screen name. Our screen name is the name we use when we make comments on our own blog. It is the way we want to be seen publicly.
Week 3 Checklist:
Our checklist tasks for week 3 were:
- Register with Google Adsense
- Create our Masterclass folders
- Download our blog themes from Dosh Dosh
- Add our Google Adsense code to our blog themes
- Upload our blog themes to our webspace
- Change our theme to the one we want
- Test everything is working
- Order some website graphics from Planet Divinity
- Continue to visit other marketers blogs and read and learn
- And continue to post to our own blogs at least 2-3 times a week
OK so that is week 3 wrapped up.
So until next time……..
Enjoy Your Learning!

P.P.S John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Masterclass Coaching may be closed at the moment. He has just started the new 2010 program and he only ever takes a limited amount of students at a time so as to dedicate himself to our learning, basically it is a first in first served situation.
Update 10/4/2010: John has just released a one month $4.95 trial to Masterclass meaning you can sign up for $4.95 and trial the training. As far as I know he is limiting these places. If you see a sold out sign, then do sign up to be notified when there are new places available again.
This training program was the best decision I ever made. I would not be doing what I am today if it wasn’t for John. I can not recommend this program enough!

Hey Jacinta!
I think JadsDeals.com is really really cute! What will you be selling in your ebay store?
Talk soon!
Gwen
Gwen Tanner´s last blog ..Continue to Learn, Continue to Grow
Hi Gwen,
Thank you for popping by!
Regarding Jadsdeals I am going to use that site for my website template for selling on ebay. My ebay name is “jadsdeals”. I used to sell spray tanning solution and equipment but now I am just interested in selling a lot of stuff I have lying around home that I don’t need and hopefully I want to sell the CD’s of ebooks. I just have to watch ebay’s policies because they keep changing the rules on selling information, ebooks etc.
My intention is to use ebay as a way of getting rid of stuff and maybe sell other items. I also make crystal stone necklaces as a hobby so I was thinking of selling those to instead of giving them all away as gifts!
My focus is setting up the blog properly, hopefully I will get around to setting up the ebay site soon.
Hope everything is well and thank you for popping by, will email you with the book review within next couple of days.
Jacinta
