John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Master Class Coaching Program Week 6!
Hello All,
Welcome to Week 6 of John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Training Masterclass Coaching Program.
Wow!
This is my third post in 2 days! For the last week I have not been able to get a lot of work done. My little one has decided not to have many afternoon naps and I have had a bad ear infection. I lost my hearing completely on my right side. It is amazing the things you take for granted. I have had to learn to focus on people’s mouths when they talk and actually look at someone when they talk to me. It has been an interesting experience.
The last 2 days I have managed to squeeze a bit of study time so here I am catching up on some post writing and honouring my commitment to write about John’s internet training program.
So lets get on with it and begin with this Week 6′s tasks……. ![]()
Internet Marketing Masterclass Week 6: Advanced Blogging Tactics
This week we were sent our welcome letter for the week, our checklist and we only had 2 videos to download and watch to learn what tasks we needed to do for the week. One of the videos was a 2 hour
webinar that John hosted on our questions and answers regarding the course. This video took a long time to transcribe! ![]()
Video 1: The Webinar
This week John hosted a training webinar for us that we could all attend if possible and be able to have a question and answers session regarding our course. (Due to my little one being up I was not able to attend
)
This webinar was actually the first official webinar I had downloaded or had access to. It was interesting, it felt like I was in a classroom environment but at my computer.
I think webinars are like the classrooms of the future, for example if you have children that need to be home schooled because of living in a remote area, or you may be unable to attend a college class but can attend online. People can join in on webinars with a microphone and headset and ask questions and get responses in real time. A webinar can be really interactive if you want it to be. This form of online classroom will be an amazing future training tool!
During the webinar John introduces us to all of our other fellow students via a web page where all of our names and blog links are listed that he has received so far. It was really cool seeing how many other students were studying the course. It made everything more real and I realised I wasn’t alone learning all of this stuff!
It is recommended that we start visiting each others blogs for a few reasons; we can get ideas for our own blogs by seeing hat others have done as we are encouraged to make our own blogs unique. The other reason is to start commenting on each others blog posts, to communicate and introduce ourselves to each other via our blogs, as well as apparently the search engines really like websites that are constantly updated.
If the search engines see a lot of website activity they will drive more natural traffic to our blogs, our websites rankings will slowly improve and become more visible on the big wide world of the web!
Another reason for commenting on blogs is to help make them content rich.
John encourages us to work together and to help each other out. If we see links or images etc that are not working that we should let each other know.
The next thing we are introduced to in the webinar is a special blog widget called “Widlink” that Dave Nicholson made for our class. The widget has everyone’s blogs coded into it so once we install the widget on our blogs our fellow students blogs will appear! (My Widlink widget is under the “Masterclass Buddies” heading in my far right sidebar
)
The ‘Widlink’ widget helps everyone promote each others blogs by linking to each others blogs through the widget. (Yes I know that sounds confusing, but I didn’t know how to explain that one!
)
The next part of our webinar went into questions and answers where we were able to ask John or Dave or Daniel a question about the course. There were quite a few really good questions such as:
- Understanding how the RSS feed works and how people can subscribe to our blogs via our RSS feeds.
- Understanding copyright issues for our blogs using images, content and videos.
- How to add a home page link so as people move around our website and visit other pages and posts they can find their way back to the front page.
- How to add links underneath our header graphic
- Understanding the very basics of generating traffic
- And understanding keywords and niche choices for our websites
There were many other questions asked and John answered every single one of them until there was no more. The webinar went for nearly 2 hours!
The best thing that occurred was at the end of the webinar we were told that Dave Nicholson was going to give us free lifetime access to his new product called “Total Web Traffic”. This product normally sells for $97, however Dave decided to give it to John’s students for FREE. (I actually haven’t done the course yet, but I have accessed my membership and there is a huge amount of information! I will write about Total Web Traffic another time after I have actually completed the course!
)
Video 2: Install The Widlink Widget On Our Blogs
In this video Dave Nicholson shows us how to install the widlink widget he created onto our websites.
We are shown:
- How to download and save the zipped widlink widget file
- How to extract/open the file and make sure we have received the correct files
- How to connect to our blogs webspace with File Zilla
- How to find the ‘plugins’ folder we need to upload the widget to
- How to upload the widget to the ‘plugins’ folder
- How to access our ‘Plugins’ tab from within our blogs dashboard
- How to activate the plugin
- How to display the widget in the sidebar we want from the ‘Widgets’ tab
- How to edit the display settings of the widget
- And how to save our settings and check that everything was successful
The intention of the widget is to show the other fellow students on our blogs and be able to link to each other so that we can communicate and comment which will also help drive traffic and improve our natural website rankings with the search engines.
Week 6 Checklist:
Our checklist tasks for week 6 were:
- Download and watch the webinar if we missed attending it
- Install the widlink widget to our blog
- Claim our free $97 value membership to Dave Nicholson’s Total Web Traffic
- Keep posting to our blogs at least once a week, preferably twice a week
- Visit the coaching blog webpage to view all the other students names and blogs
- Try to visit and comment on some of our fellow student blogs at least 5 times per week (ie 5 different blogs!)
- Review every students blog
- Try to edit changes to our blogs to make our websites more individual and unique to our personalities and the look we want to achieve
OK so that is week 6 wrapped up. This week we got to meet our other fellow students and became a little learning community. Phase 1 of our Masterclass on blog creation is now complete. Next we move on to Phase 2: Product Creation.
So until next time……..
Enjoy Your Learning!

P.P.S John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Masterclass Coaching may be closed at the moment. He has just started the new 2010 program and he only ever takes a limited amount of students at a time so as to dedicate himself to our learning, basically it is a first in first served situation.
Update 10/4/2010: John has just released a one month $4.95 trial to Masterclass meaning you can sign up for $4.95 and trial the training. As far as I know he is limiting these places. If you see a sold out sign, then do sign up to be notified when there are new places available again.
This training program was the best decision I ever made. I would not be doing what I am today if it wasn’t for John. I can not recommend this program enough!

Hi Jacinta,
I have great respect for you…raising a little one and creating business online. Your posts are always informative and worth reading. This particular post brought back so many memories!
Thanks for the recap…(I am going to follow you closely and recap everything!)
Kathy
Hi Kathy,
No worries on the recap. It has been really great summarizing everything. When I watched the videos earlier in the year I transcribed so that I could read over them, I have been using the transcriptions for developing the summaries. It is amazing to see how much we have learnt and how far we have come!
So far I have summarized up to week 16, but only up to writing week 7 on here.
So much to do, so little time.
Thank you for popping past and I will see you on your blog soon!
I have put everyone in my google reader so when ever someone writes a post I get notified and can pop over and say hello! It is a bit like popping in for a cuppa tea but in the blogging sense
See you soon!
Jacinta
Hey Jacinta,
How are you? You seem to be really enjoying the course with John and after reading this it seems he has you all working hard too.
Really cool little widget put together by Dave Nicholson and exchanging comments on each others blogs is a great way of building up those all important backlinks
Glad everything is heading in the right direction for you.
Take care and keep in touch,
Michael

Hi Michael,
Thank you for popping by, Good to see you again!
The “Widlink” widget is great and it does add backlinks to our blogs. Every time our blog shows up and someone else’s website through the widlink it creates an automatic backlink, so definitely a cool tool!
I think Alex’s students also have use of the widlink widget as Dave was involved with Alex’s training.
I have been enjoying John’s course although we have nearly finished it. We are up to week 37, it was meant to go to week 36 but John has some more stuff he wants to teach us. If you look back on my earlier posts early in the year I had trouble writing about it all. Now that I understand most of it I felt it was time to create the series. It has been great writing about it, as rereading everything and writing about it is reinforcing what we learned.
Had better get back to my studies, see you on your blog soon!
Jacinta

This is a really good idea Jacinta, and I’m grateful that you are transcribing the course. I’m sure other lazy people like me will appreciate it as well.
I have only got up to Lesson 20, and I’ve already forgotten what is in each part. This transcript is great. It will save a lot of time for Masterclass Students. Maybe you could sell it to John Thornhill?

Hi John,
Good to see you again!
No worries on the transcriptions! I actually transcribed all the videos as I watched them so that if I didn’t get to watch the video again I could flick through the notes. I have transcribed word for word every single video. It has taken a lot of time, however it has been extremely helpful to me having the transcriptions.
Food for thought on selling them to John.
I did make a suggestion in the forum for him to have the videos transcribed for future students, however maybe I should just tell him I have transcribed them already. Only problem is they are hand written transcriptions and I would have to type them all in to the computer!
Thank you for popping by, I will see you on your blog soon!
Jacinta

Hi Jacinta,
You are doing a cracking job writing all these blog posts out so fast, I take it you are fast at typing?
It takes me around 1 and a half hours to type a post of this size, taking into account that I have to think as I type.
I love the concept of webinars too, it really is like as you said, being in a classroom environment.
I like the points you made about blog commenting. As I’m sure you are aware by now I am a big fan of blog commenting, and I encourage anyone with a blog to engage in this activity.
I look forward to your next post as product creation is something I haven’t really done yet, apart from the free ebook I’m making now, I suppose you can call that a product?
I’ll be back soon!…
Paul.

Hello Mr Paul,
Good to see you again!
The product creation part of things is good so I am sure you will enjoy reading the future posts. I have actually summarized up to week 17 now. My aim is to write 2-3 weeks training in a week if possible. Truthfully it is really up to my little one, she decided not to sleep much over the last 2 weeks and we have all been a bit sick.
Thank you for popping by, I will see you on your blog soon!

Hi Jacinta!
Yes, webinars have quickly become virtual classrooms – and I think you see the beauty in them. If they are recorded, you will never have an excuse to miss a class!
Keep up the good work!
Gwen
Gwen´s last blog ..Short Post: Loving to Learn
Hi Gwen,
Thank you for popping past!
Since that webinar I have actually attended one with 30DC. It was a really great experience and definitely the classroom of the future! I can imagine in @10 years time schools from primary, high school, colleges, private etc will all have some form of online and offline training and I do believe the webinars will be a big part of that. I think we will find more and more children may be home schooled as well.
Watching John’s webinar and actually being able to attend the 30DC one gave me an “Aahaa” moment on the education of the future. In @20 years time, the way our children and us are educated will be completely different all around the world!
I am still in the middle of reading your book! I am so sorry for the delay, little one has not slept much this week and I have not had much time, we have all been sick. As soon as I have completed it, I will write. So far I love what I am reading!!!!!!!!!
Had better get back to studies, see you on your blog soon!
Jacinta

Hey Jacinta,
You certainly have your hands full trying to keep up with all this new training you’re getting and taking care of a 2 year old.
Webinars can be a great learning environment if conducted properly. It’s really nice to be able to interact with your classmates and your instructor or mentor.
It certainly looks like John is steering you all in the right direction. I thinks it’s great to have your own little community of blogs that you can visit and leave valuable comments and also support each other.
I hope you get rid of that ear infection and gain that hearing back. Although sometimes loss of hearing can be a good thing. lol!
Later,

Jeff Sargent´s last blog ..Awarding One Way Backlinks For Blog Comments
Hi Jeff,
Thank you for popping by!
The ear infection is on the mend, thank you for asking!
Doctor gave me some antibiotics to take and I have half my hearing back. Should all be good over the next week.
I have been very active over the last 2 months in our little blogging community and some how I ended up communicating with quite a few of Alex’s students as well. I think a couple of JT’s students are also with Alex.
When I visit blogs, I really like reading some of the comments and answers people leave and if I like the comment I often wondering over to their site. I have had a lot of fun and have learnt a truck load since doing that as we are all at different levels.
The webinars are excellent and I have been noticing that more and more people are going down that path. They are the classroom of the future on all levels not just this industry.
I had better get back to my studies while little one is resting. I will see you on your blog soon!
Jacinta
