John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Master Class Coaching Program Week 1!

jtmaster

Hello All,

Welcome to my series on John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Masterclass Program. As you may know from reading some of my earlier posts I have been a student of John Thornhill’s for the last 12 months. I started with his basic coaching program July 2008 and was fortunate enough to be included in this years masterclass program as an advanced student.

As I was studying the program earlier this year I actually found it quite confusing and hard to write about at the time so I decided to slack off from writing about the program and concentrate on actually learning. I am glad I made this decision because now I can write about the program and let you know what I actually learned each week.

As I write this we are in Week 35 of approximately a 40 week program. So lets begin.

Marketing Masterclass Week 1.

In this first week of masterclass we were sent a welcome letter with a check list of our tasks for the week as well as we had 8 videos we had to download and watch that showed us exactly how to do each task we were given to do.

Video 1: Before We Begin

In this video John explained all of our materials and the membership site. He explained step by step:

  1. How to access our training materials
  2. How to download them
  3. How to open the files
  4. And how to view the videos

John explained all the steps in very basic detail and actually showed us on video exactly how to do each task as he was doing it.

Video 2: Register A Domain Name

In this video we were shown how to register a domain name. John talks about the importance of registering your actual name (eg if your name is John Smith) I actually talked about the importance of this in an earlier post of mine. (Click here for that post.)

The company we were recommended to use is “1 And 1“. Before registering with them I did do some research to confirm they were the right company for me and not just go on recommendation. I do like it when people recommend a product to me but I also need to decide for myself before actually going ahead with a purchase. :)

I did end up choosing “1 and 1″, reason being they are reasonably priced plus they give you the option of registering privately included in the cost of the domain registration.

John showed us step by step how to do this. On the video he:

  1. Registered a domain name in front of us
  2. Showed us how to choose a domain name
  3. How to go through the process of making the purchase
  4. And create an account.

Video 3: Register Website Hosting

In this video we were shown how to purchase website hosting for the domain name we had just previously purchased.

We were recommended to use D9Hosting. (I have already written about my reasons for signing up with D9Hosting, you can read about them from a previous post I have done. Click here to read that post.)

During this particular video John creates a hosting account in front of us and shows us step by step:

  1. How to set up an account
  2. How to choose the right package that suits our individual needs
  3. How to connect the domain name we just bought to the hosting account,
  4. John gave us a promotional code to give us 10% off our hosting package
  5. And how to complete our transaction.

The whole process was very easy to follow step by step.

Video 4 & 5: Editing Our Domain Name Server Settings (DNS)

After we registered our hosting account with D9Hosting, we were sent a Welcome email explaining our account settings, passwords, hosting settings and name server settings etc.

In these 2 videos John shows us exactly what each setting means and its importance. He then shows us:

  1. How to link our domain name from our account at “1 and 1″ to our website hosting account at D9Hosting.
  2. How to edit the actually domain name server settings so that the domain name would point to the hosting in our control panel.

I had to watch this video twice to understand step by step but once I did the actions it was easy to do.

Changing our domain name server settings can often take up to 48 hours to propagate and become active, so while we were waiting for this to happen our next task was to set up an email account for our website.

Video 6 & 7: Setting Up A Website Email Account.

In these 2 videos John shows us how to create an email for our website. (EG admin@ yourwebsite.com)

We were shown step by step:

  1. How to enter our control panel to our hosting account
  2. How to create the email
  3. How to edit the settings
  4. And how to configure the email account into our own email servers on our computers eg Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Mail etc.

These tasks were not difficult to repeat once we knew how.

Video 8: 3 Steps To Success

This particular video was an extra video that John gave to us to give us his ingredients for what he believes makes a successful online business.

John believes there are 3 simple steps that we can do to almost guarantee our success in creating a business online.

Step 1:

Everything we do online must work towards building our mailing list. “The money is in the list!”

Step 2:

We must keep creating new products. The more products we make, the larger our mailing list will become. We should always be working on something new.

Step 3:

We must give our subscribers/readers incredible value. We should share our secrets, share everything we find out because our subscribers are our business.

Week 1 Checklist:

Our checklist of tasks for week 1 were:

  1. Register our name as a domain name with “1 and 1″
  2. Register our website hosting package with D9Hosting
  3. Link our domain name to our website hosting
  4. Set up our email accounts
  5. And test everything

OK so that is week 1 wrapped up.

So until next time……..

Enjoy Your Learning!

P.P.S John Thornhill’s Internet Marketing Masterclass Coaching may be closed at the moment. He has just started the new 2010 program and he only ever takes a limited amount of students at a time so as to dedicate himself to our learning, basically it is a first in first served situation.

Update 10/4/2010: John has just released a one month $4.95 trial to Masterclass meaning you can sign up for $4.95 and trial the training. As far as I know he is limiting these places. If you see a sold out sign, then do sign up to be notified when there are new places available again.

This training program was the best decision I ever made. I would not be doing what I am today if it wasn’t for John. I can not recommend this program enough! :D

  1. Hi Jacinta,

Very good summary of John’s class. I didn’t realize you signed up way back in July. I didn’t sign up for the MasterClass….well, because I was stuck on week 6 of the coaching for so many months I figured why be stuck on week 3 of a 36 week program forever LOL. But I’m happy to see you will be summarizing. I’m now on week 13 of the coaching program – a whole year later :) I

    Good luck!!!

    Gwen

    Hi Gwen,

Yes I signed up last July with the basic coaching program, but only got about halfway through. When the program finished John offered his advanced membership to be able to be coached one and one with him. I didn’t really take advantage of it but I knew signing up was a good idea as it then gave me access to this years Masterclass.

So far I am still a little bit behind but catching up slowly. I decided to do the in depth summaries as our class is coming to an end and I thought this would be a good way to tell people what he teaches if they are interested in signing up with him. I know he will be releasing places soon for people.

My aim is to write a summary every 2-3 days over the next few weeks and have the training written up about the same time as we finish the coaching. It is meant to go 36 weeks but John said we may go to 40 so who knows! :)

    Thanks for popping by,

    Jacinta :D

  2. Hi Jacinta

    Nice to meet you.

So you have a completely different mentor to me but you seem to be learning the same sort of stuff.

    How you finding it?

Glad your blog is climbing up the rankings, good motivation eh?

    keep in touch

    Hi Marcus,

Thank you for popping by and very nice to meet you too! Yes on the different mentor but from what I understand they have similar styles. I do believe learning from a mentor is so important to your growth. Not just from a business perspective but also from a personal one as well. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the mentors I have learnt from.

I am enjoying the challenge Paul set although I am finding that the lower our ranking goes the more work we have to do to lower it. My aim is to get it to 300,000. It is at 600,000 now so still got a while to go.

Great to meet you and I will see you soon on your blog!

  3. Hi Jacinta,
Wow, the memories this post brought back. Sometimes when you’re living it, you don’t realize how much you’ve learned and how far you’ve come…such was the case for me when I read this.
    Thanks for the lovely reminders!

    Hi Kathy,

I completely agree on the memories of what we have learnt. As I am writing this series I have realized we have actually come a really long way since the beginning and what we used to find really difficult is now second nature! :D I think that has a lot to do with how John taught us. I really like his step by step style.

Thank you for popping past. I am about to write week 2.
