Master Class Week One!
Hello Fellow Newbie Internet Business People,
OK. So it is now time for you to learn as I do!!! I have just completed watching my videos from my week one training from John Thornhill’s Marketing Masterclass and am about to share with you what I have learned and what I have done.
Inside our coaching area, John has made it so easy to maneuver around. Each document is in order and he has explained how we need to read our handout and checklist first and then watch the videos in order and try to do the exercises in order. It is all very step by step and basic in explanation. The first video we were sent talked about buying a domain name.
Question what is a domain name? It is that little address you type in to your browser when you want to go to a website address. It is the name of the website address, like naming business. One of the first things we were advised to do was to register our own name sake. The reason being is that if we have any success online with our business people will start to recognise you.
Registering your name as a website address is like creating your own name brand. (Similar to registering a trademark but a website instead). If you don’t register your name then down the track someone else will!!!
I personally have not had this occur however I do have a friend in an offline business that spent a fortune on her branding. Thousands was spent in advertising, promotion, graphics, print media etc, but the one thing she did not do was register her business name as a trademark. At the time she felt it was a little expensive. In hind sight she should have done so.
After attending a very successful expo with her product we were talking about trademarking over coffee. Well one thing lead to another and we did a search for her to register her name. Well blow me down her name had been trademarked only 2 days after the Expo!!!!!
Some one very smart saw her at the expo, did a search, discovered she had not registered the product business name as a trademark name and registered it!!! My friend was devastated and then had to start the process of legal action in order to keep her name and her branding. What should have cost about$350 ended up costing thousands in legal fees!!!
SO. Moral of the story. Register your name as a website. You don’t have to trademark your name but at least if you are the face of your business then register who you are. You don’t have to use the name as your starting website but at least protect your name!!
It is also best to register your name as a dot-com if you can. If you are looking at promoting yourself on an international level then dot-com is the most recognized.
Well like a good little student and the fact that I had done this exercise before I already have my websites registered. I have used the company www.1and1.com to do this. The websites are about$9 per year including the private registration. The website was easy to use and my account was easy to set up. Having researched Internet marketing for a while I have had a few different people recommend their services so I took the recommendations on board and joined them and so far everything has worked out fine, I have not had any problems what so ever.
Whether you use “1 and 1″ or someone else, it doesn’t matter, just begin somewhere and register your name. You can always register other names down the track. I know I have done that already. I started www.jacintasblog.com as my original domain name and then decided to register this one so I could dedicate it to business only. Just follow the step by step instructions of whoever you choose and register a basic domain name so you can build your first website.
A domain name can take up to 3-4 hours to register properly before it is ready to use so take your time with this.
Have fun registering your first website and in the next post I will explain the next lot of videos.
So until then….
Be Good To You & Believe In You Dreams
