The 100 Blog Comment Challenge Is On!
Hello All,
Just a quick post to introduce you to a new challenge some of my fellow Masterclass students and I have created just for fun.
“The 100 Blog Comments Challenge”
The idea of the challenge is to get 100 individual comments on a blog post.
The idea was born from a bimbo comment I made on a thread I had started about achieving 100 blog posts. I had made a thread letting people know that they can achieve 100 blog posts.
A few members congratulated me, then I made a bimbo comment of “Next challenge 100 blog comments on a post”. Well Steve King one of the members thought the idea was great and then next thing I knew a challenge was born!
Last week I was catching up on study and this week I am madly blog hopping trying to get 100 people involved in a challenge. Oops on that one! 
(Not a bad bimbo idea! I come up with some good ones when I least expect it! 
)
We have started a thread in the “JT Masterclass Training Forum” for members to get involved and I would also love to make this available for everyone to get involved and contribute to.
Blog Networking is an excellent way to meet new people, read new blogs and learn new things as well as improve our websites page ranking, traffic ranking and most of all generate back links.
The idea of the challenge is to get 100 people to participate. Everyone that contributes is to comment on everyone’s blog and if we have 100 people then we should get 100 individual comments! Well that is the plan! 
We are going to run the challenge pretty much from now to the end of August.
To get the most out of the power of receiving and giving blog comments, there are a few plugins you will need to install to get the most out of this challenge. These plugins will help with your websites traffic and page ranking as well as your ranking for keywords.
100 Blog Comment Challenge Plugins
The plugins to install are:
CommentLuv = http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/commentluv/
This comment will leave a link back to your latest post at the bottom of your comment that you make on a blog that has “commentluv” installed on. This plugin is awesome for generating new traffic and visitors to your site. They see your blog post title and think “I will check that blog out” I have done that many a times and met some awesome people on the way!
KeywordLuv = http://www.scratch99.com/wordpress-plugin-keywordluv/
This plugin allows your commentator to use an anchor keyword after their name when they fill in the name section on the comment form and the website will link to the keyword phrase rather than your name. This is great if you are targeting keywords for your website. Eg Jacinta @ Creating A Business Online.
DoFollow = http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sem-dofollow/
Excellent plugin to help the google bots crawl from website to website. Anyone that leaves a link in your comment section. This will allow the googlebots to go from your website to theirs and help with ranking especially if this is coming from a website that has a higher traffic and page ranking than you.
Subscribe To Double Optin Comments = http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/subscribe-to-double-opt-in-comments/
Allows you to subscribe to the websites you have made comments on and to see when others have made comments. Allows your commentators to subscribe to your blog posts comments page. (This plugin is not compulsory, just a good one for people that comment on your blog to see when you or others have replied to their comment. 
)
Add To Any = http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-to-any/
Allows you to socially bookmark the post with what ever service you want to use such as digg, twitter, facebook etc etc. You can use any other social plugin as well.
(If you have another social plugin already that is fine, as long as people can social book mark your post that is the main point!)
I think the challenge is a great idea and I am really interested as to how successful we can make it. It would be awesome that through the power of 6 degrees of separation that over 100 of us get on board and all help each other out.

100 Blog Comment Challenge Steps
The steps to take toward the challenge are:
- Let me know your in on the challenge via commenting below.
- Install the plugins mentioned to get maximum usage and benefit to the challenge both for you and those contributing to the challenge. (The most important ones for the challenge are DoFollow, CommentLuv, KeywordLuv and a social bookmarking one of your choice.)
- Write your post on your blog that you want the 100 comments on and make it a “sticky” post for maximum exposure. (Will stay at the top of your blog posts until you have reached your 100 comments.) (Update: Some people don’t want their post to be a sticky. You don’t have to if you don’t want to. As long as I have a link to the post you want to contribute to give to everyone else that is fine! )
- Send me your link to your “100 comment post” so I can let the other challengers know. (I will create a page here for the challenge so that everyone can reference to it with a link to the particular blog posts for commenting. Update: Have created the contributors page here: The 100 Blog Comment Contributors )
- Comment on all the contributing blogs. (This is the whole point! I will be going around to everyone’s sites at the end of August to see if everyone has done the right thing! Each person is only counted once on their comments and replies are not included in the count either. Hence the real challenge is getting 100 people!
) - Social bookmark the post you comment on! (You must do this at least once whether you bookmark the post via twitter, facebook, stumble upon, delicious etc etc. You must do this for the real power of this challenge to benefit us all.)
- Update: One of our contributors Thu Nguyen has created some fantastic graphic buttons that we can use for the challenge. You can get these buttons from here: Thu Nguyen’s Graphic Buttons
The idea behind social book marking everyone’s posts is that not only will we get the 100 individual comments on our blog post of choice we will also have that blog post socially bookmarked by everyone that leaves a comment on it!
Plus if we do get 100 people involved that will be 100 back links from the comments you leave to your website.
Pretty Cool huh! (Not bad for a bimbo moment! 
)

This is a good idea, I missed the thread in the Masterclass forum, but will have a look now. I haven’t got all those plug-ins, but your commentary made me realise I need them.
I’m worried about my ‘sticky’ post now. I’ve got to come up with something worthwhile for 100 comments.

I am going to try and get that done with in the next 2 days.
The thread in the MC forum is in “General Marketing”. I will create a page on here as soon as I have written my post where I will list everyone that is contributing with a link to their blog post.

Just a quick question….I’ve created a “gravatar” which now displays my picture on other blogs sites but when I reply to comments on my blog site the picture remains blank. Any ideas/suggestions?

There isn’t anything more you need to do other than have a blast and happy bog hopping and enjoy meeting some new awesome bloggers in the process!
We have 40 of us officially on board now, I am really amazed at the momentum, we might actually get to the 100! I think I will fall off my chair sideways then!

This sounds like a lot of fun. I don’t have access to the forum but you said you’ll post everything necessary to participate here.
I have all the plug ins (I needed to add only one more to what I’ve already had).
I’m a bit confused about point 3 in your post.
The sticky post. I used to think that a sticky post is a good post.
You mentioned that it should stay at the top of the posts until the amount of 100 comments is reached.
I don’t know how to keep it at the top unless I stop posting until then.
I’ve never tried to do this before.
Perhaps you can enlighten me on this.
And yes, I’m up to the challenge. Let’s go for it.

Thank you for popping by!
Have been having a think about the whole sticky post idea that was suggested as part of it. If people are uncomfortable with making the post a sticky then as long as I have a link to the post that they want to receive the 100 comments on I think that would be OK.
You can make your post either via a plugin called “Wp Sticky Post” I think that is what it is called or your other option is when you go to publish the post, just before you click “Publish Immediately” Click on the ‘Edit’ link an it will open up to show you a box where it says “Stick This Post To The Front Page” Just check that box and when you have your 100 comments then un-check the box and it will no longer be a “sticky”.
I think that is the easier option rather than the plugin.
Also if you already have a blog post in mind, if you don’t want to write a new one let em know and I will link to it when I create the “Blog Comment Contributors” page.
A couple of people in the forum were a bit stressed on the idea of writing a new post specifically for the challenge so I thought of this idea as well to compromise and help each other out.

Hi Vance,
I have been encouraging everyone to have their posts ready by the 1st of August. That way we have a month to slowly get around everyone’s blogs to contribute a comment to.
I am hoping we can get 100 people on board. Fingers crossed we create a fun momentum. Hopefully people that are contributing to the challenge will promote it to their readers as well and the ball really starts rolling!
Anything is possible.

No worries on when your post is ready. We were trying to have most people’s blog posts ready early so that when it came to visiting everyone’s else’s blogs you would only have to do a couple a day.
We haven’t got 100 people on board yet so I am pretty sure people will be joining in during the month as well.

Excellent idea! I posted to my blog last week hoping to nudge people into creating content for their blogs but never thought of this. What an excellent idea.

I am only counting the individual people towards the challenge. I am not including the repeat comments and my replies in the count. I have 23, 77 to go!
My mission is to get 100 people to sign up by the end of August!! We have 77 to go!! Then we will all get 100 individual comments each and be bookmarked 100 times. well that is the plan!

Hi Alex,
Go into your post edit settings and next to the “Publish Immediately” Link or “Published” link you should see a link that says “Edit” Click on that and then you should see the words “make this post stick to the front page”. That is the easiest way to make a sticky.
Some people aren’t making their posts a sticky but are giving direct links to the posts.
Put your link in the MC forum as well and I will be making a page here within the next 24/48 hours that we can all go to everyone’s sites from.

The challenge started as a bimbo comment I made in the forum and then Steve King ran with the idea and a few people jumped on so viola we now have a 100 blogging comment challenge! Oops on that one!
So far we have about 30 on board, so got to get a blog hopping to get some more interest up. Everyone is still writing their blog posts for the challenge.
If you know of people that would be interested in joining in, let them know. I have been tweeting madly.

Hi Gert,
I will add your link to the contributors page now and place a link in the forum as well.
All you need to do now is go visit the contributing blogs on the contributors page and make a comment, check back to the page every couple of days to see if new blogs are added. I will be adding everyone’s links as I get them.
Then the idea is that everyone eventually comments on everyone else’s blogs and hopefully we have 100 people involved by the end of it and we all have 100 people comment on our posts.
Well that is the crazy concept of the idea anyway. Nothing like creating a little challenge.
I really want this to be successful so I am about to go blog hopping madly and promote the challenge. If you have a list or if you know of people that you think will be interested let them know. The more the merrier!

Welcome aboard the challenge! The forum is actually a private one as part of John Thornhill’s coaching program. A few of us were commenting on achieving 100 blog posts and then the idea of the 100 comment challenge was born.
There will be list created on a few contributors blogs so everyone can move around easily plus everyone that joins that isn’t in the forum I will be creating a thread inside to let the forum members know.

To make your post a “sticky” if you want to. When you go to publish your post in the ‘Publish Box’ you will see the tab where it says ‘Publish’ and beside that there is a link that says ‘Edit’. Click on the edit link and a section should open up where you tick a box that says “Stick this post to the front page”.
If you are using a post you have already published for the challenge, click on the ‘Edit’ link next to ‘Visibility’ and the same option will appear.
There is a plugin called ‘WP-Sticky” if you want to use that.
Let me know when your post is ready and I will link it through on the contributors page.

Hi Alex,
I use a plugin called ‘WordPress Thread Comment’. It is really easy to install and set up.
It does make it a lot easier to reply to people’s comments. You can do it from your admin interface.

Weighing it up, I reckon it’s worth risking that for the period of the Challenge, it can be disabled or removed afterwards.

Welcome Aboard the challenge! I do agree that the plugins can leave you open to spammers. I am often going through my spamming folder deleting unworthy comments so to speak.
However what I have noticed since installing the plugins a few months ago is that my traffic has increased with genuine readers as well. There are people out there that will search out DoFollow, CommentLuv and KeywordLuv blogs to read and comment on.
It is a bit of a catch 22!

Re your commentluv, to reset your link, just sign up to commentluv and reset it. I know my link played up for a while a couple of times depending on the blogs I visited. Sometimes people don’t do the plugin update and that can cause some problems.
Another trick I used to do when my link was playing up was I would write my comment and check the link, if it said “There is a problem with your feed” I would uncheck the box wait about 30 seconds and recheck the box for it to search for the feed again. This used to work. Sometimes your site could be loading slower than the commluv link.

For the first time, realised that there was an arrow after it, my feed hadn’t been working correctly a while back so the problem must have been caused then. It seems sort of ok now, just doesn’t include my last post for some reason.

I was sent over by Sally as she is a fellow student over at Alex Jeffreys. I take a lot of action on what Sally says and she has helped me with a few things on my blog.
So here I am to take up the challenge. I have a couple of the plugins to install and, seen as I am a little late as you wanted all the contributor to be set up by 1st Aug. I am not too sure what too add as a post. I have a few already on my blog but don’t want to hold things back.

Hi Craig,
Welcome aboard the challenge! No worries on joining late. The reason why we wanted people to join early in the month was to make it easy for the blog hopping!
The earlier people join then they only have to visit a couple of blogs a day to get around to the 100. The later people join the more blog hopping they will have to do!
I will add this post to the contributors page, all you will need to do is add the plugins. Check back every couple of days to the contributors page as I will add people as they join.
We are aiming to get 100 people involved by the end of August so if you know anyone else that wants to have a little fun in a blogging challenge send them our way!

I have listed your post here on my contributors page as well. I am hoping it gets a few people enthusiastic about blogging and networking as well as helping people feel a sense of community.
If the challenge is a success I would like to do it again in about 6 months time or so. Who knows it may get bigger and bigger every time!
I just got back from a one day seminar on “Internet Marketing” that I went to today. It was really interesting and full of gold nugget information. It just reinforced to me that what we have learned from JT was well worth doing and we are all on the right path.

I am not sure if the plugins would work for ‘Tumblr’, the plugins are for wordpress blogs mainly so I have no idea on that one!
However if you want in, all I really need from you is a link to your latest blog post so I can add you on to our contributors page.
Once your on the contributors page all you need to do is go around to all the contributing blogs and have a read, meet some new people and make some comments.
There are some amazing people that have joined in this challenge and the feedback I have been getting has been awesome.

As of now I have 51 individual comments, so not a bad effort!
However I think this has grown to something more than just the 100 individual comments. I have been getting some amazing feedback from people telling me they are enjoying the blog hopping process, meeting new people, reading new blogs.
I think it would be awesome if we get 100 contributors. The power of bogging and social networking is amazing!
Re Masterclass: Yes I have been a student of John Thornhill’s I did his 16 week coaching program in 2008 and then did masterclass in 2009. This year I have been following along helping the new students in the forum.

What a brilliant idea! I found this challenge via Thu Nguyen through SeededBuzz and jumped on the chance to join in a great project. This is NOT a bimbo idea and I hope you let this WordPress(dot)com gal join in the fun.
My wordpress blog name is Mirth and Motivation via the format http://eof737.wordpress.com/ and I would love to join this challenge.
I don’t think I can add the plugins to my free blog (any tips?) but bloggers can add their post links within the comment body and I will honor it. Yes, we can link back.

I am not sure about the plugins on a free wordpress blog, can not answer that one!
The main point is to make sure you comment on everyone’s blog and give them a social bookmark.
When we started the challenge I did not think of how big it was going to get and didn’t even think of other blogging platforms either! Oops on that one!

Wow, you really have caught a tiger by the tail here haven’t you!
You’re right the opportunity is here for contributors to build some great relationships through this challenge.
Some people are great at blog hopping as a routine, some only do it spasmodically for various reasons. Lately, i have fallen into the latter category sadly, though this ‘challenge’ gives me a 2nd chance.

I think most people are realising the power of blog hopping with this challenge and being introduced to people and blogs they normally would not have met.
I try and blog hop once a week if I can or at least once a fortnight to the regular blogs I visit. I also like to find new blogs to visit and i normally do that by blog hopping through the comments left on other blogs.
Some nights I have no idea where I started to how I ended up on some blogs. I have a lot of fun when I go on my blog hopping adventures.
Had better get back to adding some more contributors to the list.

Hi Rob,
I use a plugin called ‘WordPress Threaded Comment” really easy to use and easy to set up. I means I can reply to people’s comments straight under them and they can then reply back.
I have noticed an increase in comment discussion since introducing the plugin a couple of months ago.

No it isn’t too late to join. As long as you have a blog post ready and have installed the plugins if you can you can join.
The idea is to have 100 on board before the end of August. The earlier people have joined the easier it has been for them as they have only had to visit a couple of blogs a day. The later people join the more blog hopping they have to do to get around to everyone by the end of the challenge.
However in saying that. I still haven’t gotten around to everyone yet. I will be blog hopping in my sleep very shortly!

I am pleased you are enjoying the blog hopping process. I have been getting a lot of feedback from people really loving it and enjoying the fact that they are meeting new people and being introduced to new blogs.
I think we might just make the 100 which will be absolutely awesome. I still haven’t had the chance to start my blog hopping yet. My little one is in playgroup tomorrow so I should be able to start then.
I use a plugin called “WordPress Threaded comment” This allows me to be able to reply to everyone’s comments and my reply be placed directly under the commentator. It is a great plugin and really easy to use.

I think this is a really great idea! Am I too late?
I got on to it from a post by Sally Neill – she gets everywhere!
It’s taken me a bit to get a post that I felt was worthy of 100 visitors but I finally got it up and running today:

My major problem is installing the plugins! I’ve tried to install commentLuv – it doesn’t show in my list of plugins in the WP Dashboard – but if I try to install it – I get the message that it’s installed!! Strange! Any ideas??
I must admit that I’ve had mega problems with some of the others too. I’m working on them – will this disqualify me? I am trying to get them installed – just having a fight with technology grrrrrr
Anyways – I’ll be giving the plugins another go tomorrow/today so I hope that’s OK.

Got to LOVE sally for getting behind the challenge. John Thornhill has promoted it on his blog as well as Randy Smith has been contributing as well. It is awesome the amount of positive feedback I have been getting. People have been enjoying meeting new people, reading new blogs they may other wise not have been introduced to and creating new relationships.
I think this has surpassed the whole comment idea now.

No worries on my bimbo idea being a good one!!
The feedback I have been getting has been awesome. Everyone has enjoyed the process so far, meeting new people, reading new blogs etc etc. I think this has been perfect for a few people at the moment. Some have mentioned that this challenge has given them ideas for future blog posts and has really got their creative juices flowing.
Apparently it has helped a few students with their writers block and given some people that real pep they have needed.
Once things started to roll with this I realized it had become a lot more than the comments idea. It is more about networking and meeting people that most people would other wise not have met.
Not sure on the regularity of the event. A few people have mentioned that now. It is a good idea. though and definitely food for thought.
We are up to 75 now!!

Hi Kathy,
Sometimes the commentluv tracking can be faster than the feed from your website. If the blog post is not picked up and underneath your comment it says ‘Error” just uncheck the box, wait 30 seconds and re check the box before submitting your comment. This will often reset the feed.
You could also sign up to the ‘comluv’ website and submit your website there. Once I did that I haven’t had problems with my feed.
Good to hear that you are having fun with the challenge. The feedback I have been getting is that it has been a success so far and everyone has been enjoying meeting everyone.
Who knows, this may become a yearly event!

Hi Steve,
I think my name has a Spanish background, meaning “purple flower” from “Hycinth”. It was my mothers favourite name when I was born.
I still have to get around to everyone’s blogs and have a read. I have been busy processing everyone. The response has been awesome, and even if we don’t get the 100 sign ups I still class this challenge as a success.
It has been a lot of work, however the benefits completely out way the time. The buzz of community that has been generated has been awesome.

I think you are asking me to let you know formally that I want to become a part of your 100 comment challenge. First you need to pick a post on your blog that you want to contribute to the challenge.
If you want it could be your most recent post “How to write an ebook that is included in the best seller list” That sounds like a great article to contribute!
Next install the plugins that are mentioned in my blog post above. You may have problems with keywordluv, if you do do not worry about it.
Next give me confirmation of your blog post url link that you want to contribute, and I will list it on the contributors page here:

We have 8 spots left.
Once I have listed your blog on the contributors page then everyone will be able to visit your blog and make comment on your post.
You need to visit everyone’s blogs and make comments on their posts as well. That is the whole point of the challenge. That we all visit each others blogs and make comments.
Plus you have to socially book mark the posts as well, either with ‘Stumble Upon, Delicious, Digg, Twitter, etc etc etc. you must socially book mark each post you comment on.
The challenge officially ends the 31st of August so the idea is to have visited everyone’s blog posts by then so if we have 100 contributors then on the 31st of August we should all have had 100 people make comments on our blog posts as well as socially book mark them.
Re the keywordluv plugin. What are your main keywords to your website? “Article Marketing Tips & Tricks”. That is your slogan. So whenever you visit a site that has ‘keywordluv’ installed you can write in the name field when you leave a comment, “Fran @ Article Marketing Tips & Tricks”

I came up with a wonderful idea I want to share with you. Since the inception of the 100 comment blog challenge, I have been visiting all the blogs on the list, although I have not been to them all yet, I have been to quite a few.
There are some very helpful and informative blog posts out there from you guys. A lot of various subjects as well. Not just internet marketing. I have seen blogs about dog care, exercise and nutrition, golf, parenting, and many more.
What I have also seen is that all of the bloggers are into helping others succeed online. So I propose the idea of taking the 100 blog comment challenge a step further. Let us all get together and collabarate and put our heads together. How about if we all join forces so everyone benefits and succeeds online?
My idea is to combine say, 10 or more of our blog posts and create an ebook or a free report. Three or four can get together, submit content, add affiliate links for recommended products or links to their own products. Give givewaway rights to the report or ebook, with the stipulation that no changes are made, and then share it with the rest of the 100 blog post challenge bloggers so we can have a product to give away to help build our lists of subscribers.
Just think of the possibilities here. We can all create products together. We can do interviews on skype of the each other. Everyone has talents and abilities that the other does not have. We can use the recording as a stand alone product or a giveaway on a squeeze page. We can make say 20 or 30 products or more and host our own internet marketing giveaway, giving our products away to help others succeed online as well. All the while creating subscriber list of potential customers.
What do you think of this idea? Am I going off the deep end here?
Can something like this work?

Definitely food for thought!!
Right now I just want to get through the challenge!
Do a post in the forum about this and let everyone else know what you think. It is probably a really good idea for the new students as well as involving previous students.
I think logistically it would be interesting to work out and a little too much for my brain right now,
However definitely food for thought when the challenge officially ends! I want to create a survey of everyone that contributes to find out what they really thought about everything and how it could improve if I was to make this a regular event at the end of the challenge.

It isn’t possible to submit 2 blogs. We are limiting everyone to one blog post of choice that way everyone wins.

I have already listed your blog on my contributors page!
We have 93 on board now so hopefully 93 of us do the right thing and all comment on each others blogs so that by the 31st of August we all have at least 93 individual comments on a blog post.
Well that is the plan!
Plus I have made it that everyone is to socially book mark each post as they go! For a bit of social love too!
Not sure on doing this every month. My hubby and bubba already think my hands are glued to my keyboard!
Maybe once every 6 months. I think it really depends on the end results of this challenge and whether it is completely successful. I will know on September 1st!
Good to hear you like the idea of the challenge, I have had some amazing feedback from people about meeting new people and visiting blogs they normally would not have found etc. It has been a buzz as well as a humbling experience, considering we came up with the idea from a comment I made in our training forum.

well, you have inspired a few (93 so far!) people to take part for which many congrats and congrats to all participants too as it is quite an exercise to fit in around ‘normal’ daily schedules, isn’t it?
My hope is that even after the challenge is finished we will have established a routine, if you like, of visiting a certain number of blogs a day (a week?) to make comments and so KEEP THE MOMENTUM going, build on new friendships etc and links with like minded people to further our online and off-line activities to mutual gain?
Not to mention the stimulus to making more regular blog posts!!!!!!!!1
Maybe a bit idealistic but could be worthwhile for all concerned?

This looks pretty exciting. How does a body get involved if they don’t really have a personal blog up as of yet? I have a couple or three but they are all commercial in nature.
If one of those is acceptable I will set it up as it does have posts, but only directed to the blog at hand.

I just came by to see how many people are in this challenge. You are almost there and the number of comments you’ve got is now well over 100 even if you don’t count your own.
I think that nobody can catch up with you so give yourself a big celebration.

I officially have 85 individual comments. Only each person is counted once and my replies are not counted at all.
As soon as we have the 100 on board which will hopefully be in the next couple of days I am going to start motivating everyone to complete the challenge and visit each others blogs.
The idea is for us all to achieve the amount of individual comments together. EG if we have 97 contributors then by the 31st of August we should all have had at least 96 people comment on our blog posts.
Well that is the plan! It is about us all achieving this together.
I am going to email everyone the contributor list once it is completed so everyone has a copy and doesn’t have to keep popping back here.
Fingers crossed we get another 3 members in the next 2 days!!

Your rss feed is normally something like ‘yourdomian.com/feed’ or ‘yourdomain.com/rss’. It depends on the website.
I think you have submitted it correct as your link is showing up properly and it is showing up that you are a member of ‘Comluv’ so I wouldn’t worry about it.
