Week 1. Getting Your Website Online
Hello Fellow Internet Business Newbies,
OK. So by now if you are following along as I am doing things, you should have organized your website domain name and you should have received notification that it is ready to go. Now what do you do????? Well now you need to organize where you are going to actually host your website.
Website hosting is like renting some space. You need to rent some space for your website. There are hundreds of different hosting companies out there. I am sure all have their good and bad points. Some are cheap, some are expensive. I suggest doing your research and working out the best company that suits your needs.
As usual I am a good little student and actually joined the hosting company I was recommended to join, however I did do my research first before making that decision. The main websites I was looking at were Go Daddy, Hostgator, Blue Host and I was recommended to D9Hosting.
I ended up choosing D9Hosting for a few reasons. The first being because they were very competitive with what they offered compared to the others, but the main reason I chose D9Hosting was because the people that own D9Hosting had been apart of John Thornhill’s network of coaching for the last 4 years.
The owners of D9Hosting have been where you and I are. They started online like you and me as complete newbies and created very successful businesses online. They are aware of the ups and downs on creating websites and creating products as well as the fact that they know what can go wrong. They are real people and are part of the coaching forum so you can actually communicate with them individually through the forum both on a business and professional level.
D9Hosting is very easy to use and the c-panel area (this is the area where you actually maintain your websites and email addresses etc) is really easy to work around. They have step by step video instructions as well as live help and a good support network. Everything is explained with the complete beginner in mind. There is heaps of articles and how to PDF’s and training videos you can download to help with your set up.
SO…. Moving on you now need to do your research and choose a hosting company for your website. Once you have chosen a company, you then need to buy some hosting, you shouldn’t have to pay for than@$10-15 per month at the most. Then once you have created you hosting account you need to join your website domain name to your hosting account.
This is probably sounding technical now so the best way I can describe to do this is to log into your domain name account (the people you bought the domain name from), then log into your hosting account and find your domain name server hosting details.
Your hosting company should have sent you a welcome email giving you all your login details. This email should also have your hosting Domain Name Server (DNS) settings. These are the details you need to forward your website domain name to your hosting company.
Next you have to follow the instructions on how to forward your Domain Name Server settings from where your domain name is registered to your hosting account. Just do things slowly step by step. If you have any problems your hosting company should be able to guide you. Just do what I do, ask lots of questions!!!! It really isn’t that complicated to do. It just takes a little time, so definitely do not do it around a 2 year old!! I learned the hard way!
Changing your domain name server settings can often take about 48 hours to propagate so now you just need to sit back and wait until the settings clear. You will know when this has occurred by typing in your website name and you should see your hosting company’s web page. Once you see your hosting companies web page you are ready to move on to the next step.
So I will leave you with that information as it is now time for my bed time.
So until next time……
