Hello Fellow Newbie Internet Business People…..

Another week and another post……..This week I was going to continue on with my story on how I got started online however after the last week I need to talk about something very important to your business online.

Over the last few months I have been working hard and studying like a mad woman learning all about creating websites, products, internet marketing and everything else to do with the internet. I have been researching websites and spending hours and hours writing my new manuals ready to launch. Well guess what I did?? Can you guess???

I have been working that hard I forgot to back up my work and guess what happened! Can you guess yet?? I think you can! I forgot to back up my work and the computer crashed!!!!!!! I kept thinking I should do a back up but never took the time to do one. I kept getting side tracked. I kept thinking I’ll do it later.

Well later never came and on Monday morning at 10am I sat there looking at a blank computer screen telling me that I had files that were corrupt on my hard drive and it wouldn’t work…..

I looked at the screen at first in disbelief and thought Ok I can do a re installation. That’s what it was telling me to do, to do a repair. So I got the installation CD out. Inserted it into the drive and waited. Then the screen said it couldn’t recognize the CD. OK now I started to panic….The thoughts that went through my head……..

All the pictures of my growing daughter from the last 6 months, the videos, the work I had just completed on my manuals was it all gone????? I quickly packed up the computer and took it down to the local computer shop. It would not surprise you that my computer had just run out of its warranty only 2 months ago…Typical….

Anyway I walked into the local computer shop extremely stressed and anxious. I begged the technicians to please save my data….Well 2 days later I have a new hard drive and an external hard drive so I have no excuse not to back up now!!!! Did I loose my data you ask??

When I went into the shop yesterday there was a women standing at the counter with her laptop. She was nearly in tears and in disbelief. She had lost all her photos, all her memories and files. Her hard drive had corrupted beyond repair and her data was irretrievable. My heart started to race and I could feel the anxiety swell to my throat. My name was called out next and I remember I was looking at the technician with fear…

Was my data saved?? Yes!! My Data was saved!!!!!! All that work, all those photos, they were still there sitting on my new hard drive. I jumped up and down and squealed, everyone in the shop looked…I was so lucky that my data was not corrupted and that it was able to be saved…..All I could say was Thank You Thank You Thank You………

The moral of the story……BACK UP YOUR WORK!!!! Even if it takes an extra hour of your time to back it all up off your computer. It would take a lot longer to re do any of the work all over again….And whats more all those precious photos and videos.

We live in such a digital fast paced world and we seem to think that everything will be ok and we can do that later. We must remember that computers are like cars, they need to be serviced, they need to be taken care of.

Do your Scan Disks,

Do your Virus Checker,

Do your Drive De-fragments,

Do them every week with out fail!!

If you don’t take care of your computers hard drive you could loose everything and what business would you have then?? I was lucky this time and it has taught me a very important lesson.

Now I am off to back up everything 3 times over just to be sure, so until next time…..
